No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

Went up to the Kooyong Road IGA about an hour ago to get a few things.

I was surprised that it was so quiet when I got there (about 10:30am) but the lady on the checkout said it was very busy earlier.

I was even more surprised to see that they still had quite a few packs of toilet rolls and paper towels, I was betting with my aunt that they would probably have none left which no doubt would have been the case if the Perth/Peel lockdown had been announced earlier in the day yesterday (it was announced at about 8pm last night).

The endless parade of idiots continues...

Perth lockdown: Vehicles attempting to flee city after lockdown turned back at Two Rocks checkpoint

https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/coronavirus/perth-lockdown-vehicles-attempting-...

Quote:
Dozens of motorists attempting to escape Perth’s four day lockdown have been turned back at the border overnight.

Police were stopping traffic at eight checkpoints as soon as the clock struck 12:01am to enforce the lockdown order that bars travel outside the Perth and Peel region.

Officers stopped 555 vehicles, with 38 told to turn around after attempting to get through after midnight.

However, at least 100 cars and caravans were seen on the freeway making it past the check points just before lockdown.

I'll give them 10/10 for determination, at least. No-one in their right mind should even have been thinking of travelling anywhere with the cold and rain we had last night.

A previously confirmed COVID-19 case has tested positive, after being cleared. This is not uncommon.

Anyone who has attended a potential exposure site at the times listed must get tested for COVID-19 and monitor for symptoms over the next 14 days.

I forgot it was a public holiday. Thanks for the reminder. Should I buy masks today or we gonna give this one a miss?

Perhaps he should have waited until he stopped the car before recording his little rant?

Let's see... driving a car and not paying attention to the road in front of him while recording himself... waving his left hand around while steering with his right (could even have been holding the phone with his right hand and steering with his knees).

Have to assume he's driving an automatic otherwise your guess is as good as mine as to what he's using to change gears. Shocked

Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a knock on the door from the police seeing as they probably know who he is and where he lives.

FIFO workers not exempt from Perth lockdown

https://www.australianmining.com.au/news/fifo-workers-not-exempt-from-perth-lock...

Quote:
A ‘stay where you are’ order has been issued by Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan, as the state enforced a snap four-day lockdown to combat multiple COVID-19 outbreaks across Australia.

The outbreak at Newmont Corporation’s Tanami gold mine has forced several Australian states into precautionary lockdowns, with premier McGowan asking fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) mine workers to remain on site or at home.

I should think so.

I've noticed its been a bit quiet at Perth Airport in the early morning for the past 2 days, I can usually hear the numerous FIFO flights taking off in the distance from about 5:15am if I'm awake but there's been a huge reduction which is probably a bit of a worry for the airport seeing as the FIFO's have been their main source of income since the start of the pandemic.

Yeah, I hear those flights at 5.15 every morning too.

Nothing yesterday or today.

I'm not leaving the house at all during this lockdown - not for anything.

Have plenty of food, so no need to go anywhere.

I've got carers looking after my mother, and my father can't have visitors at the nursing home.

Been answering work emails etc. since about 2am this morning, so most of my day's work is done.

Gonna start binge watching 'Queen of the South' on Netflix (and finish reading my Obama book).

I was recently reading up about FIFO workers here and apparently the mining companies used to provide accomodation so the workers could live 'on site' instead of constantly travelling to and from work as they do now.

I don't know if the accomodation was provided free of charge? Probably wasn't but I'm sure the mining companies would have only charged a minimal rent, no doubt much cheaper than private landlords were charging up in WA's north west anyway.

This all stopped when the Federal government made some tax changes and after that it was cheaper for the mining companies to fly workers in and out than it was to provide accomodation for them 'on site'. Big win for the airlines and airports. Not so much for the workers who now have to constantly fly to and from work (lots of stress involved there I've heard) not to mention the environment with all the pollution from the increased flights.

The thing I have noticed about videos in tik tok, is that they are all reversed, for instance, even writing is reversed when showing an item or product.
I’m just assuming he’s a passenger. He never takes his eyes off the phone/recording device.
Even my daughter’s videos or photos she takes and sends to me are reversed and it’s puzzling.
Maybe it’s a phone setting?

You might be right there, Lols.

Looking at the video again I can see out of his rear window what looks like a couple of cars passing in the other direction so the image probably is reversed (or he's in America). Roll Eyes

But, he's still an idiot in my opinion.

A friend of mine from NZ lives on-site.

From memory, Rio only charge him about $160 per month for his three bedroom house in Parabadoo.
