For most people with immunocompromise, the Oxford University/AstraZeneca can be given at any time, and the main priority is to be vaccinated as early as possible, according to the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI).

‘Many immunocompromising conditions are associated with a higher risk of severe illness and complications from COVID-19 … [and] vaccination should be strongly encouraged,’ it states.

As I said, only if and when my GP tells me it is safe for me to do so. Same goes for my aunt.

um.

One thing I've learned is to not rely too much on information I read on the Internet (which is being constantly reinforced just from reading some peoples' posts on this forum). Wink

Again... my GP will let me know if and when it is safe for me to be vaccinated against Covid. And, he's in a position to make the best decision since he has my entire medical history available to him.

And, even after that, it will still be my choice whether or not to have the vaccine (I will if it is safe).

Coronavirus WA: UWA academic warns mask fatigue setting in as Perth rides out COVID storm

https://thewest.com.au/news/coronavirus/coronavirus-wa-uwa-academic-warns-mask-f...

(Subscriber only article but the 'headline' tells the story anyway).

Mask wearing still doesn't bother me or my elderly aunt but I was reading the other day where a lot of small businesses in Perth are still experiencing up to a 50% downturn in business which some of them attribute to the ongoing mandatory wearing of masks.

Perhaps a lot of people (especially the elderly) are preferring to stay home instead of having to wear a mask outside?

Here's the story from today's West Australian.

Yes, I've noticed that myself in my travels during the past week - people not wearing masks properly or not at all.

Some people may have a medical exemption but most of the ones I've seen looked pretty fit to me (and, they weren't doing any sort of 'vigorous exercise' either).

WA coronavirus restrictions: Premier Mark McGowan announces eased rules for Perth and Peel

https://thewest.com.au/news/coronavirus/wa-coronavirus-restrictions-premier-mark...

Quote:
Premier Mark McGowan has announced eased restrictions for Perth and Peel from midnight tomorrow, with masks only required on public transport and at large events.

Mr McGowan announced the eased restrictions after all 115 close contacts linked to the security guard from the Pan Pacific Hotel were tested, and returned negative results.

Those close contacts remain in quarantine.

“Masks will now only be required on public transport, or at events or venues with more than 1000 people,” the Premier said.

They will also be required in hospitals, disability and aged care facilities.

I will continue to do what I've been doing since the first lockdown in February - carry a mask with me wherever I go (just in case).

Yep, happened to us on the ANZAC Day weekend.

Now, Sydney is getting it just in time for Mother's Day.

Greater Sydney and NSW Covid restrictions: new coronavirus rules for Mother’s Day weekend explained

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/may/06/greater-sydney-covid-rest...

Quote:
The New South Wales premier, Gladys Berejiklian, has announced new restrictions for greater Sydney, including Wollongong, the Central Coast and the Blue Mountains, following two cases of local Covid transmission in Sydney’s east.

At least it isn't a complete lockdown like we had over the ANZAC Day weekend... not yet, anyway.

Astrazeneca and now making over a million vaccines a week here in Australia

Five more suffer blood clotting after receiving AstraZeneca jab

Five more people are being treated for serious blood clots linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine, the Therapeutic Goods Administration has said.
The cases are in a 74-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman from Victoria, a 66-year-old man from Queensland, a 64-year-old woman from Western Australia and a 70-year-old man from Tasmania.
Queensland Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young said the 66-year-old is in intensive care as a "direct result" of receiving the COVID jab on March 30.

Haven't we been told (many times) that the AstraZeneca vaccine was safe for everyone over 50?

I'm guessing we'll be seeing quite a few more "reprehensible idiots who refused to be vaccinated" now?

And, I'm inclined to agree with a letter writer in our West Australian a few weeks back who suspects we've been told the AstraZeneca vaccine was safe for over 50's because it has already been given to a large number of aged care residents throughout Australia and the Federal government is worried about lawsuits if many elderly people start dying as a result of blood clots (the government can blame AstraZeneca who, as well as the other Covid vaccine manufacturers, are apparently 'immune' from lawsuits pertaining to their Covid vaccines due to the rapid development and testing).

Well, it was extremely obvious that today was the day when masks were no longer mandatory except on public transport, at footy games, events with 1,000 people or more, hospitals, etc.

Could hardly move in Belmont Forum this afternoon (Mother's Day tomorrow probably also had something to do with it being so busy) and while many people were using the SafeWA app (or pen and paper) when entering stores there still wasn't too much social distancing to be seen.

Let's see how long our "Covid free lifestyle" lasts this time.

More good news for WA.

McGowan moves to permanently reduce WA’s overseas traveller intake

https://www.watoday.com.au/national/western-australia/mcgowan-moves-to-permanent...

Quote:
West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has flagged a permanent reduction to the maximum number of returned international travellers Perth will take each week in an effort to reduce the risk of another hotel quarantine breach.

Prior to the Anzac Day long weekend lockdown, the state was receiving up to 1025 returned travellers a week, temporarily reduced to 512 in the wake of the breach.

Mr McGowan indicated the cap would remain at 530, with three of WA’s hotels considered ‘high risk’ due to ventilation issues in the process of being taken offline.

Zero would be my preferred number and I'm pretty sure most West Australians would agree.

Meanwhile, check out these idiots.

InterContinental Hotel Perth staff hold ‘tone deaf’ and ‘disrespectful’ COVID-themed party

https://thewest.com.au/news/coronavirus/intercontinental-hotel-perth-staff-hold-...

Another subscriber only article by our "esteemed" West Australian but since I bought it again today (I really need to break that habit) I've attached the full story.

Wonder if these muppets will feel like partying if they lose their jobs and they're lined up at Centrelink after the pandemic is over because no-one wants to stay in their hotel anymore due to 'left over' Covid concerns?

Oh, I didn't hide their faces - the paper did. I wonder why?  Roll Eyes

you seriously are daft.

1  the nursing home residents got the pfizer vac.

2.  covid itself carries a 10 fold increased risk of thrombosis, more  then the vaccine.

i think you are enjoying "fortress WA" just a little too much.

we will get a super spreader event soon and there will be a lot of deaths.

isnt it ironic that covid doesnt scare me (but it obviously scares YOU)
and the vaccine CERTAINLY DOESNT SCARE ME , the risk of a clot is less then 1 in 200,000.

we need to offer the vaccine for a resonable period of time (by october , everyone who wants one can have one) and then let it rip and let the evolutionary blowtorch make all the people who dont want the virus OR the vaccine come to their senses  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

time to decide.

expecting everyone to do the hard yards for you is no longer acceptable

Apparently blood clotting occurs normally quite often.

Quote:
........  Venous thrombosis, comprising deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), occurs with an incidence of approximately 1 per 1000 annually in adult populations (1).
Rates are slightly higher in men than women.
About two-thirds of episodes manifest as DVT and one-third as PE with or without DVT.
The major outcomes of venous thrombosis are death, recurrence, post-thrombotic syndrome and major bleeding due to anticoagulation.
Thrombosis is also associated with impaired quality of life, particularly when post-thrombotic syndrome develops (2, 3).
Death occurs within one month of an episode in about 6% of those with DVT and 10% of those with PE (4).
The mortality rate for PE has been estimated to be high as 30% in studies that included autopsy-based PE diagnosis (5), pointing out the fact that many PE are not recognized clinically before death.
Mortality rates are lower among patients with idiopathic venous thrombosis and highest among those whose thrombosis occurs in the setting of cancer.

Venous thrombosis is a disease of aging, with a low rate of about 1 per 10,000 annually before the fourth decade of life, rising rapidly after age 45 years, and approaching 5–6 per 1000 annually by age 80       .........

Oh, yes... as are most West Australians, I'm sure.

As someone who was diagnosed with serious prostate cancer which rated 9 as a Gleason score just over a year ago (which I'm hoping has been successfully treated) and also has an almost 4cm lump on the right side of the thyroid which has a 15% chance of being the beginning of thyroid cancer (and I'm still waiting for my operation to have it removed which is now supposed to be May 26th... appointment attempt #5) I can say with absolute certainty that Covid and the vaccines don't worry me in the slightest.

But, I am worried about my 91 year old aunt and the tens of thousands of others in this country who would probably die if the virus gets loose here... vaccine or no vaccine.
