Hmmm...

...my next door neighbour who has had a couple of appointments at Royal Perth Hospital over the past few weeks told me he was talking to one of the staff there the other day and he was told that the hospital will probably be bringing back masking very soon in an effort to cope with the huge surge in Covid cases here in Perth and Australia wide (in addition to all of the flu and RSV, etc. cases 'doing the rounds' at the moment).

Commendable, but masking in hospitals and healthcare should be a year round thing these days, especially during winter.

And I'm betting it won't be mandatory, only recommended (which means hardly anyone - staff and visitors - will wear one and we'll probably only see 'baggy blue' surgical masks with a lot of them being worn under the nose or chin.

But even that will be a big improvement on what we're seeing right now which is almost no one masking anywhere. But there's lots of hacking coughs and sneezing everywhere, especially in the shopping centres.

This should have been on the front page in my opinion but anyway...

... from page 23 of today's The Sunday Times.

Yes, it is a (deliberate) failure.

And, yes, WA should be outraged but with zero messaging from the State Government or their Health Department (also deliberate, same with the rest of the States and Territories) hardly anyone knows about this ongoing tragedy. Which is just what our governments and big business want.

Kudos to John Flint for once again making the effort to bring this to everyone's attention. Shame he didn't say anything about wearing masks which would be the one thing that would make a big difference, not just with Covid but also with the flu and other respiratory viruses but he probably wasn't allowed to say that.

On page 3 of today's The Sunday Times.

650 new cases.  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

With the current estimate of 1 in 15 people in WA with Covid at the moment (1 in 19 for the whole of Australia) we must have a really, really small population here all of a sudden.  Roll Eyes

At least they've summoned up the courage to mention the m(ask) word... but... without mandates hardly anyone will bother, of course.

"Consider wearing a mask"  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

And... the "best protection" from "winter illnesses" is to get your vaccinations AND WEAR A MASK in crowded places.

Mind you, I have noticed a few more people wearing masks when I'm out shopping lately, probably 1 in 50 people instead of the usual 1 in 100. Probably won't last long though.

My mother had an operation at RPH last week, and her nurse told me to get her out of the hospital as soon as I could as the place was full of COVID patients   Undecided

They were on yellow alert.

She stayed in for only two nights, thankfully.

Hi Greg.

Glad your mother is OK after being at RPH again.

Every time I go to Belmont Forum I chat to a few random people and every single one of them has either just had Covid recently or they know someone who has.

650 new cases... I don'r know why the pollies and the media have to keep deliberately or unintentionally lying to us (I'm still saying it's deliberate).

Actually, I do know why.... as I've said many times.... THE ECONOMY.

Unfortunately, she was rushed back to RPH early this morning in an ambulance.

Even though she is very unwell, the doctors said they don't really want to admit her to a ward as they are full of RSV and COVID.

Staff numbers are down too, as many of them have COVID.

I've arranged for mum to be isolated in a single room, and observed overnight, so hopefully she'll be safe.

I'll have to go in there tomorrow to meet with the medical team, and I just know when I get in the lift on Level 3 nobody will be wearing a mask.

Hope your mother is OK, Greg.

I've just noticed this:

Canberra hospitals bring back compulsory masks and limit visitors as COVID-19 and other winter illnesses increase

In short: ACT public hospitals, health centres and walk-in centres have introduced measures to limit the spread of respiratory infections.
Visitors are limited to two per patient at the same time, masks must be worn in clinical and public areas, and patients will be COVID tested.
What's next? Health authorities will continue to monitor the number of acute respiration infections in Canberra.

Quote:
An increase in acute respiratory infections, including COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), has prompted Canberra Health Services to introduce temporary infection-control measures at public hospitals, health centres and walk-in clinics.

Why are these things always "temporary"? They should be permanent nowadays but I'm sure the probably sizeable 'cohort' of antimaskers (and antivaxxers) in hospitals and other healthcare settings will be up in arms again if it was.

Time for them to find a new profession if they're not capable of doing something as simple as wearing a mask to protect patients in my opinion.

So, when is WA and the rest of Australia going to do the same?

monitor all you like, it wont change the fact that the only successful strategy for dealing with covid is to take "personal responsibility" and get yourself physically fit , on awesome food and sleep well.

stressing out about it, being up all night in a state of fear and posting at 3 am about your terror  is pumping you full of cortisol, damaging your immune system and making you more likely to perish

we call this a "self fulfilling prophesy"

"Personal responsibility". Again.  Grin Grin Grin

So, please tell me - how does that help Kathryn Squires, who is in remission from Stage 4 melanoma and has a suppressed immune system due to her treatment?

And the many other vulnerable people like her? And the elderly?

You did actually read the article I linked to in my previous post, didn't you?

Scoot has read Chap 1 of his Self-Help book and he regurgitates that as an “answer” to any question.

She's still in there, but not doing too bad.  Her condition is 'stable'.

As predicted, though, the lifts were full and nobody was wearing a mask.

And they've painted new yellow lines around the hospital entrance with large lettering saying "No Smoking in this Area" and the area is full of people in wheelchairs with drips in their arms ... smoking.

If a patient is smoking on the hospital grounds, I think they should lose their bed.

Give them their discharge papers and send them on their way.

Was there again this afternoon.  Slight correction.

It actually says " No Smoking Zone", and it's full of people in wheelchairs - many of them amputees - with a drip in their arm and a cigarette in their mouth.

They should not be allowed back inside.

It's an insult to all the hardworking staff in the hospital.

The lifts were absolutely packed - you had to suck your gut in and stand on tip toes in order to let everyone fit in.

I've never seen the lifts that crowded, and not a single person was wearing a mask (except me).

The nurse looking after my mother told me many of her colleagues had COVID and that the geriatric ward had about 6 patients currently with COVID.

I'm just hoping my mother doesn't catch it again.

Perhaps they should start holding events like the International Economic Forum in hospitals?

https://x.com/1goodtern/status/1797990237525750050

Looks like they talked to some real health professionals here.

And I wonder why they're going to all this trouble if Covid is supposed to be "just a cold" now?

Quote:
🔥🔥🔥
"At the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, only people who have recently been PCR tested are allowed access.  Yes, which starts TOMORROW! On June 5, 2024! Think about it! 🤔"

The wealthy and powerful are doing this behind the scenes all the time.
Presidents, Prime Ministers, Kings, with their hepa and PCR tests and masked servants.

And the rest of you can just eat covid.

Yes, that's exactly what they think - "just eat Covid".

Latest wastewater sampling for Perth showing Covid cases still increasing.

https://x.com/amnewtonPhD/status/1798913176798708201

Quote:
Latest C-19 wastewater for Perth, WA, up to 31 May.

Still trending upwards.

Here is definite proof that Covid isn't "going away" even when the pollies tell us that cases are declining and/or they're very low because they're not - people are not bothering to test anymore and the few that do can only register PCR tests, no more RATs.

The dark line on the graph shows the amount of Covid in wastewater and the yellow line shows the number of reported cases. They matched fairly closely until about a year ago then the case numbers dropped off dramatically even though the wastewater sampling didn't (except for the 'troughs' between 'waves' of Covid).

I've seen the same graph for wastewater compared to reported cases for other parts of Australia and other parts of the world where they've almost completely stopped testing and reporting cases but still reporting wastewater sampling.
