that headline from the paper is appalling.

young mum killed in road accident.

a young mum is a living gem, our most precious people.

if we dropped the speed limit to 20 kph, we could end the road toll

i am calling for a zero road toll.

people must be kept safe from selfish people who think only about the economy and getting to work.

thank you so much for bringing this situation to our attention.

let me compose a tweet about how the premier doesnt value young mums lives because he allows this disgraceful speed limit to apply

Yes, the young mum's death is tragic.

But so were the 14 deaths in WA from Covid last week.

Same as the 755 Covid deaths in WA since the border opened last March.

These are also tragic deaths.

Why are all of these deaths not making front page news?

Just got back from Woolworths.

I was the only person wearing a mask.

I even saw people coming out of the doctors' surgery not wearing a mask.

Idiots.

I have tickets for a concert at RAC Arena tonight, but I'm not going - that's gonna be a super spreader event.

"The State Government has advised that as of 12:01am on Friday 29th April 2022, proof of vaccination and masks are no longer required to enter RAC Arena."

Guess what the name of the band playing tonight is?

Probably a good idea not to go to that concert, Greg.

I have my cousin and his wife coming up from Secret Harbour to visit us for the first time in about 6 months tomorrow. We're going to meet at Belmont Forum , have a look around then have a bite to eat (or vice versa) but if the food court is full of people I'm not going in there and having to remove my mask to eat. Same goes for my aunt.

We'll find somewhere a bit quieter if it's busy or not bother eating at all.

We're meeting at about 10:30am so hopefully it won't be too busy then. If it's as quiet as it was when I was there yesterday at about 11am we should be OK.

I'm actually more concerned about my aunt when I take her to the Seniors Centre across Wright St. from the Forum to get her hair done at 8am every Wednesday and she seems to be the only one there wearing a mask (and the hairdresser insists she takes it off while having her hair done).

There's usually several other seniors having their hair done at the same time and none of them wear a mask from what I've heard (I don't stay there after I"ve dropped my aunt off). The hairdresser and all of the Senior Centre staff also don't wear masks because "it isn't mandated anymore".

Thank goodness they're closed over Christmas and New Year so that's 2 or (hopefully) 3 weeks where I don't have to worry.

On a side note, did you just receive that SMS from the police regarding the missing kids?

Yes, just checked my phone.

4 and 8 years old missing from Jupiter Street, Carlisle since about 8 this morning.

I hope they're found safe and well soon.

Hey, guys - remember this?

https://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1609817412/1693#1693

(Ignore the Reggie 'static' below it).

Went to see my GP yesterday to get routine blood tests. He's in the same practice as my aunt's GP. Despite listening to an 'on hold' recorded message saying wearing a (surgical) mask is required when I phoned up to make the appointment last week and a sign on the front door which still says masks (surgical again) are required inside the 3 receptionists (not the same 3 when I took my aunt there last month) were not wearing a mask and one of them had a bad cough and the 'sniffles'.

Once again, hardly any of the GP's I saw going in or out of their rooms were wearing a mask and the ones that were only had surgical 'baggy blues'.

Thank goodness I had a KN95 on, as usual. At least the waiting area wasn't full of maskless patients this time - there was only me and another lady waiting and we both had masks on (but she was only wearing a surgical - better than nothing, I guess?)

Even my own GP had a surgical mask which he only pulled up over his mouth and nose after we went into his room and closed the door.

We're doomed, I tell you... the human race is too stupid to deserve to survive.

Here's a 'snip' from the medical practice's website regarding Covid.

"Updated 18th May 2022"

Quote:
Surgical masks offer better protection against the Omicron variant of COVID-19

I should have asked to see the "medical advice" to back up that claim.

And don't forget to sanitise your hands (yes, they still have the sanitiser on the reception desk and insist on it's use).

The receptionist I spoke to asked me if I had any cold or flu symptoms when I arrived (I resisted the temptation to say "no - but the lady sitting next to you appears to").

Unbelievable.

Oh, and I have to get my blood test this morning at a place across from Belmont Forum - couldn't get it at the pathology place near my GP yesterday because I need to fast for 12 hours and I hadn't eaten for about 15. Wish they'd told me that when I made the appointment last Friday.

So, all up it cost me $50.25 ($90.00 fee minus $39.75 back from Medicare) to go to my GP for a 10 minute chat and pick up a blood test form. I should have been a doctor (or a dentist).

I wonder how many masks (apart from mine) I'll see at the pathology place when I get the blood test in about an hour?

Well, that was a pleasant surprise... the only people (that I could see) at the pathology place when I went there this morning were the two staff and they were both wearing high quality masks the same as I was.

Perhaps there's hope for the human race after all?
