From where I'm observing it seems to be fairly obvious why our governments are trying their best to convince everyone that SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) is "mild" and just like another cold or flu and should be treated "like any other respiratory disease".

It's a little embarrassing for them if too many people find out too much of the truth about Covid of course because this "mild respiratory disease" is now on track to kill between 10 and 20 times more people every year than the flu does (in a bad flu year).

And, it also isn't 'seasonal' like the flu which is no doubt something else our governments want us all to believe.

My mother said to me today that if she ever again hears anyone claim that COVID is mild and that it's just like the flu, she's gonna set them straight.

It is without doubt the worst thing she has ever been through, and for three days there it was touch & go.

Back in January when we caught it… was a harsh experience and for me to lose 6 kgs in 12 days is something that never happened to me before.

I understand how your Mum feels about hearing others getting it mild and only for about 3 days.
It’s the variant of the thing… it must be.  Roll Eyes
Warn your mum she may find her hair might fall out in batches within the next 2 months.
But not to be alarmed as it will grow back eventually.
I ended up buying a wig alongside cancer patients buying wigs. A different world to be in yet a valuable service.
But good news…my hair has now grown back, but….curlier than ever… so many stray curls going every which way!

Has your mum’s taste/smell been affected?
Mine was… it’s at 80% recovered now but most things smell like coffee … I can’t even differentiate between perfumes… it all smells the same. Dang.

Yeah, her taste is affected.  Says most things taste "funny" now.

Hey, Greg.

Remember this?

https://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1609817412/1753#1753

From today's The West Australian (even got a small mention on the front page but the main story is on page 7).

So, I'm guessing they didn't follow the health advice and pack face masks, RAT's and hand sanitiser, physically distance, wear masks on buses, get tested if they have COVID like symptoms, stay at home and stay away from others at least until their symptoms have disappeared?

I'm shocked I tell you.... totally shocked!  Roll Eyes

That awesome "personal responsibility" is working sooooo well.

Dr. Robertson expects WA's COVID wave will peak this week.

Yeah... nah. I don't think so (unless they stop reporting cases and deaths which wouldn't surprise me seeing as it's almost Christmas).

And, if that isn't bad enough we have a shipful of Covid arriving in Fremantle tomorrow as well. Great.

https://www.perthnow.com.au/travel/queen-elizabeth-cruise-ship-to-dock-in-wa-wit...

Probably be about 400 cases by the time it docks.

Crazy.

Everybody coming back to Perth from Bali by plane has COVID too.

If you absolutely, positively, 100% want to catch COVID, just go to Bali - you're guaranteed to catch it, and then bring it back to Perth.

Took my mother to her GP today for a post-COVID check, and the GP told us two of her patients have died from COVID in the last few days.

"But they would probably tell you leavers was worth getting COVID for"

Wonder if they will still be saying that in 5 years time and at least 10 more Covid infections?

And if they give Covid to their parents and grandparents, what would they say then?

And just when we thought things might be improving regarding mask wearing here in Perth.

https://mobile.twitter.com/ermahhgod/status/1597980483123806208

Quote:
Mask Count this evening

Chemist warehouse Innaloo - 1 mask. (ME)

Bunnings Innaloo - 1 mask (ME)

Coles Floreat - 2 customers & 1 staff member

I had no idea that so many ppl want to die, to willingly give their life and future health to COVID.

Can't really blame them though with the almost total lack of information provided by our governments and the media about Covid (except for the "it's over" and "hoping for a short, sharp wave before Christmas" BS).

The next things to be added to the list of "excuses" will no doubt be "But... it's too hot to wear a mask" and "We thought Covid is only a winter 'thing' like the flu".

Roll Eyes

(I'm going up to IGA in Kooyong Road Rivervale shortly and I'm betting I'll be the only one wearing a mask there - once again).

Edit: Yep, just got back. Wasn't very busy in IGA but, as I predicted, I was the only one in there wearing a mask. But, I did see one other mask being worn - by an elderly gentleman waiting for the 935 bus outside IGA (and it was a high quality one like mine).

No wonder the majority of the population don't have a clue what's going on with Covid these days.

The attached image is from page 3 of today's The West Australian.

And then on the page 13 Opinion page we have The West's State Political Editor Peter Law with this article:

https://thewest.com.au/opinion/peter-law-consensus-builder-mcgowan-transforms-to...

Quote:
On reflection, that response was a signal Mark McGowan 2.0 had arrived and I do wonder if his Government would have approached VAD differently — more forcefully — had it been an issue post-COVID.

Unreal. I sometimes wonder how these people sleep at night.

First time I've heard Mark McGowan say the word "Covid" for a long time (the last time was probably when he was still pretending to care about people getting sick and dying before he finally caved in and opened WA's border last March).

COVID WA: WA Premier concerned about fourth COVID wave as cases hit almost 12,000

Quote:
Almost 12,000 new COVID cases and 14 virus-related deaths have been recorded in WA over the past week, with WA Premier Mark McGowan voicing concern over a fourth COVID wave.

Driven by a variety of Omicron sub-variants taking hold in the State, new COVID infections hit 11,762 this week, hospital admissions reached 185 and four people were admitted to ICU.

The deaths reported to WA Health in the past week included people aged from 75 to 96 years and dated back to November 19.

Quote:
WA Premier Mark McGowan on Friday admitted he was concerned by the impact staff furloughing due to COVID infections was having on the State’s health system.

Concerned enough to bring back mandatory masks on public transport and all health care settings for starters, Mark?

I doubt it.

I hope I'm still around in 20 or 30 years (or however long it is) when all of these 'secret' National Cabinet meeting minutes are released for all to see then we might finally find out who's been pulling the pollies' strings and getting them all to take their 'vow of silence' regarding Covid (I could probably have a couple of wild guesses right now and I'm pretty sure I would be right).

Especially the absolute silence about the 16,223 deaths (and counting). And not a single word of condolence for the grieving families from any politician .

But, I'm sure most or all of these documents will be mysteriously 'lost' or find their way into a shredder long before we get a chance to see them.

Quote:
“I just urge people to take precautions, particularly, if you’re working in the health workforce. Take precautions, take care of your health".

Yeah, that's exactly what some of us are trying to do, Mark. But without any more help from your useless government. Which, like the rest of Australia's useless governments is now too afraid to mandate masks and bring back other Covid protections like isolation for positive cases to save lives.

On page 2 of today's The West Australian.

The latest addition to our government's pathetic attempts to make it look like they want people to wear masks (but they really don't, of course).

** Drum roll **

Wear a mask if necessary

WHAT EXACTLY DOES THAT MEAN????  Roll Eyes

Never mind, I'll just add it to:

"Recommended"
"Strongly recommended"
"Encouraged"
~and~
"Strongly encouraged"

Might also include "Please follow this advice" but I think that could be just a Queensland 'thing' for their useless Covid 'Traffic Light' advice.

And, I'm sure that "if necessary" will (not) be adopted by the majority of the population in exactly the same way the others have (not).

Same applies to all of the other "suggestions" in the ad.

But, at least try and remember to keep washing and sanitising your hands regularly, it'll definitely be a great help in dealing with an airborne virus.  Roll Eyes

Oh, and I picked up 5 more free RAT's at Belmont Forum this morning. Take that, Red Dot (and a few other stores) who have been selling them (or trying to) for $10 each over the past several months.

First we heard "late November".

Then it was "early December".

Followed by "before Christmas".

And now it's..... "XMAS MARKS COVID PEAK".

Yeah, sure.  Roll Eyes

Yes, I'm sure everyone's masking up right now after seeing the page 2 ad in yesterday's The West Australian.

"Wear a mask if necessary"

(I'm guessing none of the shoppers I saw at the Rivervale IGA this morning must have read that because the girl on the checkout and I were the only ones wearing a mask).

carl

that headline from the paper is appalling.

young mum killed in road accident.

a young mum is a living gem, our most precious people.

if we dropped the speed limit to 20 kph, we could end the road toll

i am calling for a zero road toll.

people must be kept safe from selfish people who think only about the economy and getting to work.

thank you so much for bringing this situation to our attention.

let me compose a tweet about how the premier doesnt value young mums lives because he allows this disgraceful speed limit to apply
