I don't seem to recall anyone asking me for my opinion?

New report reveals West Aussies’ strong support for Mark McGowan’s handling of COVID-19 pandemic

Paywalled as usual but you get the idea (oh, and you can stick your 50% off Black Friday subscription offer where the sun don't shine - I'm sick of hearing about "Black Friday" already and it's only Wednesday).

Anyway, if they had asked me for my opinion Mark McGowan also had my strong support until last March when he finally caved in to his corporate buddies/masters and unleashed Covid h3ll upon us all.

yeah carl, you and gweg are out of touch . the poll confirms it

I'd like to know when the poll was taken. Might have to waste another $2 to buy that worthless rag today and find out.

I'd also like to know the types of jobs (and if they're employed or not and the suburbs where they live) of all the people who were polled but I'm sure we won't be given that information.

(Hint: if they polled a lot of the people I've spoken to in our area during the past 8 months since WA 'opened up' I'm pretty sure McGowan's 'Covid report card' wouldn't be quite so 'glowing').

Honestly - if we're going to follow the US and Canada and go with this "Black Friday" nonsense every year (like Halloween) then I have to wonder why today isn't a national public holiday for Thanksgiving here in Australia as well seeing as "Black Friday" is the day after Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving is a holiday in the US and Canada.

Can't really have one without the other but a national public holiday today would cause a big drop in the number of people shopping, wouldn't it?  Not to mention many (most?) other businesses being closed for the day.

I'm betting the majority of Australians (and probably a lot of businesses too) wouldn't have a clue what "Black Friday" really means (just like Halloween) other than another opportunity to get people out and in the shops to spend, spend, spend.

And then businesses will be scratching their heads in a few weeks time and wonder why their Christmas sales are down (apart from Covid running rampant, of course).  Roll Eyes

Correct Carl

Spend spend spending on trinkets you do not need is probably a sign of mental health issues

Spend spend spending on PPE and testing to the exclusion of other more dangerous illnesses
Is probably a sign of a mental health condition

What's really the signs of mental health issues (well, greed actually) is when shops are still having "Black Friday" sales up to 2 weeks after the actual day as we've seen here the past few years. Roll Eyes

lol... nearly forgot... now we also have "Cyber Monday" which is the Monday after "Black Friday".  Cheesy

But, seeing as this is mostly an online sales 'thing' hopefully we won't be hearing too much about that here - but, I wouldn't bet on it.  Roll Eyes

Hi Carl kovid dominates your day

Never forget that your days on earth are numbered

You really should try to find a more positive reason to bounce out of bed

And this is exactly the advice you should be giving to your bedmate Sir Lastnail,
who's posted hundreds of absurd claims and silly memes focussing on his fear
of the COVID vaccinations.

And I have to laugh at your terminology of COVID as a "mild respiratory virus".

SARS-CoV-2 may not kill a huge fraction of the people it infects, but the disease
caused by the virus has become the leading viral cause of death since 2020.

As of October 2022, the virus has caused more than 6.57 million deaths worldwide
and has infected at least 626 million people, according to OurWorldInData.

You seem to have very little knowledge of the virus and its effects on human life.
You might need to creep out of your cave, and check a few actual statistics.

I see you're still online, Geoff.

Just wondering - are you waiting for more stupidity from aquascoot or the inevitable abuse from Sir Nail?

We'll probably be seeing both in the next hour or two.

This is it. The disease is real and it has had serious consequences around the world. However now we have vaccines, most of us have had them and it is long past time to move on with our lives. Continual lockdowns and mask wearing is not the way forward.

Bugger.

It wasn't in today's The West Australian. Must have been in yesterday's (which I didn't get).

Can I have my $2 back?  Roll Eyes

Just got back from the Kooyong Road, Rivervale IGA.

Wasn't particularly busy but I did find it a little disturbing that I was the only one wearing a mask during the 10 minutes I was in there.

Usually I see a few of the staff (especially the ones manning the checkouts) wearing masks but not today.

The next month or two will be very interesting to say the least.

Very quiet in RPH this morning.

Most people were wearing masks, which was good to see.

Everyone in my mother's room seems to be doing okay, which is also good to see.

Mum is doing a lot better - sitting up reading the paper (that's the first time I've bought the Sunday Times in about 30 years), eating (horrible) soup, taking all her meds, and having full conversations again.

I didn't stick around long though - I get a bit nervous being in a room with four people who all have COVID, although the PPE and air purifiers seem to be doing their job.

Well, she made it.

After two courses of the five-day Ivermectin antiviral treatment, my mother has finally shaken off COVID.

Wasn't looking too good for a few days though.

Got her home from hospital yesterday, and so far so good.

The antivirals are a life saver!

Great news, Greg.

Yes, the antivirals are definitely a life saver. I believe you need to use them within the first 5 days after becoming infected or they don't work well or don't work at all.

Another problem with the "let it rip" path taken by our governments is that the virus is being given almost unlimited opportunities to create more new variants and some of the latest ones now manage to evade most of our current antivirals.

From where I'm observing it seems to be fairly obvious why our governments are trying their best to convince everyone that SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) is "mild" and just like another cold or flu and should be treated "like any other respiratory disease".

It's a little embarrassing for them if too many people find out too much of the truth about Covid of course because this "mild respiratory disease" is now on track to kill between 10 and 20 times more people every year than the flu does (in a bad flu year).

And, it also isn't 'seasonal' like the flu which is no doubt something else our governments want us all to believe.

My mother said to me today that if she ever again hears anyone claim that COVID is mild and that it's just like the flu, she's gonna set them straight.

It is without doubt the worst thing she has ever been through, and for three days there it was touch & go.

Back in January when we caught it… was a harsh experience and for me to lose 6 kgs in 12 days is something that never happened to me before.

I understand how your Mum feels about hearing others getting it mild and only for about 3 days.
It’s the variant of the thing… it must be.  Roll Eyes
Warn your mum she may find her hair might fall out in batches within the next 2 months.
But not to be alarmed as it will grow back eventually.
I ended up buying a wig alongside cancer patients buying wigs. A different world to be in yet a valuable service.
But good news…my hair has now grown back, but….curlier than ever… so many stray curls going every which way!

Has your mum’s taste/smell been affected?
Mine was… it’s at 80% recovered now but most things smell like coffee … I can’t even differentiate between perfumes… it all smells the same. Dang.
