At the entrance to the Telstra shop in Belmont Forum this morning. If I had a black texta with me and there weren't so many people around I may have been tempted to write COVID? at the bottom in big letters.

In today's The West Australian.

Maybe the much hoped for "Short, Sharp Wave" would be a bit shorter if the staff and customers in these places started wearing masks again?

Same applies to everyone else in Perth.

Won't be long before they're pleading with customers to wear masks and also not to come to their businesses when they're sick to prevent more and more staff from getting infected and then they can't open like what's happened in South Australia and probably other States.

Infections up 88% (that definitely shouldn't be suggesting to anyone that the pandemic is over for starters).

Hi, Greg.

Yeah... true. He was actually referring to WA's Covid numbers from that article in the West Australian but I do believe to get a truer picture as to what's going on we need to look at the whole of Australia.

But, WA hospitalisations were up 3 at the end of last week making 179 in hospital and 3 in ICU (down 2).

And another 15 deaths for the week.

I really do hope this is a "short, sharp wave" here in WA but I have a bad feeling about this. Especially when our so called health experts are comparing our current wave with Singapore but failing to mention a lot more people in Singapore have had their 3rd Covid vaccination than we have here and also about 90% of Singapore's population wear masks as opposed to about 5% here.

How's that for all of us taking "personal responsibility", aqua? I guess my elderly aunt and I aren't the only ones not willing to risk our health - possibly even our lives - for the economy.

And, I'm prepared to bet there's many more like us.

By the way... 12 months ago (and in previous years) while "Fortress WA" was still intact we had no hesitation booking something like this for all of us (for both Christmas and New Year) but after Mark McGowan did his gold medal winning spectacular backflip into the Covid cesspit last March (and dragged all of us along with him) and it's now "every man and woman for themselves", "personal responsibility" and "you do you" we've decided "we'll do us" and save our money this year.

All because we have governments that are too cowardly to mandate masks and reinstate other protections even though Covid cases are skyrocketing. And businesses that won't ask their staff and customers to wear masks because "we don't have to do that anymore".

Too Bad So Sad (for them).

BTW, margarine was NEVER used as a "tractor lubricant". They
were made of oil from seals, whales, and fish—a totally different
thing. In the early days of margarine manufacturing, those oils
were used as a cheaper dairy substitute.

But please don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Thanks for the great laugh first thing in the morning.

Comparing eating food with potentially catching a brain and multiple organ damaging constantly mutating bat virus that's pretty much out of control at the moment all around Australia.

Even if this is a "short, sharp wave" (which I don't believe it will be, unfortunately) we still wouldn't be making a booking anywhere for Christmas and/or New Year.

Anyway, if it puts your mind at ease a little he didn't actually say sausage sizzle... he said finger food.

But, he usually 'fires up the barbie' every time we've been around there in the past.

Paywalled as usual but you get the idea (oh, and you can stick your 50% off Black Friday subscription offer where the sun don't shine - I'm sick of hearing about "Black Friday" already and it's only Wednesday).

Anyway, if they had asked me for my opinion Mark McGowan also had my strong support until last March when he finally caved in to his corporate buddies/masters and unleashed Covid h3ll upon us all.
