Probably wouldn't need to do so much 'page flipping' if certain people kept their antivaxxer/antimask rubbish in their own threads.

I wonder what might be causing this?

At the entrance to the Telstra shop in Belmont Forum this morning.

If I had a black texta with me and there weren't so many people around I may have been tempted to write COVID? at the bottom in big letters.

In today's The West Australian.

Maybe the much hoped for "Short, Sharp Wave" would be a bit shorter if the staff and customers in these places started wearing masks again?

Same applies to everyone else in Perth.

Won't be long before they're pleading with customers to wear masks and also not to come to their businesses when they're sick to prevent more and more staff from getting infected and then they can't open like what's happened in South Australia and probably other States.

Those concerned about getting COVID have become a bit more reticent about where they go and what they do.

Yep, I know of one northern suburbs tavern that will be missing out on getting some money from at least two 'lost' customers on Christmas Eve already.

Infections up 88% (that definitely shouldn't be suggesting to anyone that the pandemic is over for starters).

Between 50 and 100 Covid deaths every week. 108 deaths last week.

Hospitalisations were up 336 for Australia last week and up 8 for ICU.

Not down.

That's the strangest definition of "end of the pandemic" I've ever seen.  Roll Eyes

Whatever aquascoot says, you just have to think the opposite in order to get the truth.

Hi, Greg.

Yeah... true. He was actually referring to WA's Covid numbers from that article in the West Australian but I do believe to get a truer picture as to what's going on we need to look at the whole of Australia.

But, WA hospitalisations were up 3 at the end of last week making 179 in hospital and 3 in ICU (down 2).

And another 15 deaths for the week.

I really do hope this is a "short, sharp wave" here in WA but I have a bad feeling about this. Especially when our so called health experts are comparing our current wave with Singapore but failing to mention a lot more people in Singapore have had their 3rd Covid vaccination than we have here and also about 90% of Singapore's population wear masks as opposed to about 5% here.

And, I've also made my own little "private protest" today against our government's "let it rip for the economy" official policy now.

Had a phone call from a friend while I was at the Forum, he wanted to book 6 of us in for Christmas Eve at a popular northern suburbs tavern. I said that if there were no Covid safe 'protocols' in place (staff and customers wearing masks at a bare minimum, working air purifiers would also be good) then my aunt and I won't be going. Now he is making a booking for only 4.

Just had a call from my friend - he was one of the remaining 4 who were planning to go to the tavern on Christmas Eve. Now the whole 6 of us won't be going because they've also decided it isn't worth the risk with Covid so they haven't booked.

Instead, all 6 of us will be meeting at his place on New Years Eve for a 'sausage sizzle'.

How's that for all of us taking "personal responsibility", aqua? I guess my elderly aunt and I aren't the only ones not willing to risk our health - possibly even our lives - for the economy.

And, I'm prepared to bet there's many more like us.

By the way... 12 months ago (and in previous years) while "Fortress WA" was still intact we had no hesitation booking something like this for all of us (for both Christmas and New Year) but after Mark McGowan did his gold medal winning spectacular backflip into the Covid cesspit last March (and dragged all of us along with him) and it's now "every man and woman for themselves", "personal responsibility" and "you do you" we've decided "we'll do us" and save our money this year.

All because we have governments that are too cowardly to mandate masks and reinstate other protections even though Covid cases are skyrocketing. And businesses that won't ask their staff and customers to wear masks because "we don't have to do that anymore".

Too Bad So Sad (for them).

but your own post shows hospitalisations are DOWN.

so the sky rocketing is of no consequence.

you and your elderly aunt are taking personal responsibility for your health by going to a sausage sizzle?

fake meat full of big foods fillers along with hyper refined carbs in the form of white bread, margarine (originally used as a tractor lubricant) and tomato sauce which is 40 % sugar.

and you think covid is dangerous to your health  Cry Cry Cry Cry

Once again, another absurd conflation of two vastly different things LOL.

Now it's a deadly virus with a sausage sizzle!

BTW, margarine was NEVER used as a "tractor lubricant".  They
were made of oil from seals, whales, and fish—a totally different
thing.  In the early days of margarine manufacturing, those oils
were used as a cheaper dairy substitute.

But please don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Grin Grin Grin

Thanks for the great laugh first thing in the morning.

Comparing eating food with potentially catching a brain and multiple organ damaging constantly mutating bat virus that's pretty much out of control at the moment all around Australia.

Even if this is a "short, sharp wave" (which I don't believe it will be, unfortunately) we still wouldn't be making a booking anywhere for Christmas and/or New Year.

Anyway, if it puts your mind at ease a little he didn't actually say sausage sizzle... he said finger food.

But, he usually 'fires up the barbie' every time we've been around there in the past.

I might have to print out your post and take it with me on the day to let everyone know of your concerns. Grin

I don't seem to recall anyone asking me for my opinion?

New report reveals West Aussies’ strong support for Mark McGowan’s handling of COVID-19 pandemic

Paywalled as usual but you get the idea (oh, and you can stick your 50% off Black Friday subscription offer where the sun don't shine - I'm sick of hearing about "Black Friday" already and it's only Wednesday).

Anyway, if they had asked me for my opinion Mark McGowan also had my strong support until last March when he finally caved in to his corporate buddies/masters and unleashed Covid h3ll upon us all.
