So predictable.

Premier Mark McGowan rules out a return to mask wearing despite health chief concerns

Paywalled of course but self explanatory.

Who's been paying you off and/or threatening you and was it worth it?

I could make a few guesses and I'd probably be right with most or all of them.

How the 'mighty' have fallen in the past 12 months - he's gone from "I don't to see West Australians getting sick and dying with Covid" to "let it rip and too bad if people are sick and dying as long as the economy is doing OK again".

Too scared to upset your donors and a lot of the population by mandating masks, aren't you? Just like the rest of our useless, gutless pollies.

You and the rest of Australia's politicians should be hanging your heads in shame.

POLITICIANS SHOULD NOT BE MAKING DECISIONS ABOUT PUBLIC HEALTH.

Looking forward (not) to seeing the WA government's next big waste of taxpayers' money with TV and newspaper ads this week urging people to make sure they're up to date with their Covid vaccinations and "recommending" or maybe even "strongly recommending" the wearing of masks indoors.

Which of course will mean that 99% of the population will continue not to wear a mask like they're not doing now (which is exactly what the pollies and businesses want) and probably also scratch their heads and think to themselves: "why do I need to have any more Covid vaccinations? The pandemic is supposed to be over, isn't it"?

With each day that passes it feels like we're getting closer and closer to living in the sort of dystopian nightmare we've only seen in science fiction and horror movies so far. I suspect we're almost there right now.

Premier Mark McGowan rules out a return to mask wearing despite WA Chief Health Officer Andy Robertson concerns.

Quote:
We're still at the stage where people need to take personal responsibility

Grin Grin Grin

When does that "stage" begin because I still haven't seen it yet (apart from a few - very few - people wearing masks in shops, etc.)?

And, what is the next "stage" (if there even is one)?

Seriously... I can't believe McGowan and the rest of the State Premiers (and the Prime Minister on the rare occasion when he's actually in Australia) are still pushing that cr@p.

Oh, and...

Quote:
Mr McGowan acknowledged COVID-19 cases were on the rise again but said the numbers were not significant enough for him to be concerned.

Of course not - especially when he (and the rest of Australia's pollies) no doubt has 'instant' access to antivirals and other treatments the rest of us plebs cannot get.

I wonder how many deaths it will take for him to be concerned? There's already 711 dead West Australians (since WA opened up in March) who will not be spending this Christmas with their families.

Still not killing off enough of the oldies and medically vulnerable I guess?

WA COVID Care at Home to conclude

Quote:
Western Australia’s COVID-19 monitoring program WA COVID Care at Home will come to an end on 31 December 2022, with the last intake of patients occurring on Wednesday, 30 November 2022.

WA Health established WA COVID Care at Home on 31 January 2022 to provide home monitoring care for COVID-positive patients at higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19 due to medical and social factors and to reduce unnecessary hospital presentations.

Much easier for them to catch Covid by having to go to hospital instead of being cared for at home these days, so it seems.

Quote:
The state now has stronger protection against serious illness from COVID-19 due to very high vaccination levels, prior infection, access to antiviral treatments and enhanced medical and public understanding about how to manage the risks.

Gaslighting BS. And, WA only has 24.6% of the population with a 4th vaccination (2nd booster) right now.

And, "prior infection" is useless when it comes to getting infected with the next variant within weeks (and even the same one in a lot of cases). Not to mention the effects of Long Covid.

Quote:
With the recent end of WA’s State of Emergency powers, the conclusion of WA COVID Care at Home aligns with the state’s transition to manage COVID-19 through sustainable public health measures, vaccination and targeted testing processes.

More gaslighting BS. And, even if you don't get Covid in the hospital, by the time an ambulance arrives to take you there it might already be too late.

Was good to see a lot more people wearing masks at Belmont Forum this morning, might have been between 10 and 20 percent wearing them compared with the usual 1 to 5 percent.

Must have been a lot of people taking notice of the newspapers over the past 2 days?

Let's see if it lasts... if mask usage increases too much the State government may have to look at banning them before it upsets Mark's big business buddies "masks are bad because they deter people from shopping and spending" (oh, and Basil with his rag tag band of CBD coffee shop owners and CBD office landlords "masks deter people from coming into the city and we also can't have people working from home even if it is a lot more convenient and cheaper for them to do so").

Not to mention the huge benefit to the environment by not having all of those cars on the roads with people travelling to and from the CBD for work most days of the week (Oil companies don't like that one, of course).

And, I've also made my own little "private protest" today against our government's "let it rip for the economy" official policy now.

Had a phone call from a friend while I was at the Forum, he wanted to book 6 of us in for Christmas Eve at a popular northern suburbs tavern. I said that if there were no Covid safe 'protocols' in place (staff and customers wearing masks at a bare minimum, working air purifiers would also be good) then my aunt and I won't be going. Now he is making a booking for only 4.

Anyway, he said we'll all get together for a backyard sausage sizzle at his place sometime around Christmas like we usually do every year and that's fine with me.

The government expects us to now "live with the virus" but I can assure them my aunt and I don't plan on getting sick (repeatedly) or even dying for their sh*tty economy. We haven't eaten out since my birthday lunch in early August.

I know a few other people who have been doing and still are doing the same.

"the economy is way way way more important than a mild respiratory virus 720 dead West Australians so far (711 since March), 176 currently in hospital (5 in ICU) and countless long Covid cases both now and still to come".

There - fixed that for you.

Meanwhile, WA Health obviously has more 'important' things to worry about.

WA Health warns community of severe reactions after consuming poppy seed tea

Quote:
WA Health is warning of the dangers of consuming large quantities of poppy seeds after a person has become ill in Western Australia.

We'll add them to the previously seen (and no doubt ignored by most people):

"recommended"

"strongly recommended"

and "please follow this advice"

This is the most polite mass death and disabling event ever.

I'll be happy when you appear on the list.

Time to get back to work for me now. It annoys the crap out me that my job involves protecting peoples identity like you. Never mind I can't pick and choose.

I went to visit my mother in hospital again today (RPH), and they've completely dropped all screening for the virus at the front door.

You no longer have to do the online questionnaire and show the big green tick on your phone to the security guys.

No proof of vaccination required, and I even saw people walking in without masks.

They just wave you right through now.  Ridiculous.

And, on an ever sadder more personal note, mum's not doing well.

She's in her 10th day of COVID now and she's had enough.

Can't eat, drink, or walk and can hardly talk.

She wants to stop all medication and treatment.  Says she's had enough and just wants to die   Cry

I'm hand feeding her the medication and keeping up her fluids manually too.

The more time I'm by her bed the more she perks up.

She's agreed to hang on for a few more days to see how the antivirals go.

Even though the doctors don't consider her to be critical, and believe she'll beat COVID, I don't see this ending well.

Lost my father earlier in the year, and now it looks like mum might not make it to Christmas.

I'll encourage her to keep fighting though  Smiley
