Well, after the public transport mask mandates were removed here in WA on Friday I've noticed hardly anyone is wearing masks anymore.

Sat at the bus stop in Wright Street outside Belmont Forum for about 20 minutes on Friday morning (in my KN95 mask, of course) and watched about 5 or 6 buses go past and stop for passengers.

I must have seen about 3 or 4 people with masks on while I was watching.

The bus drivers weren't wearing masks - no real surprise there.

Saw about the same when I walked to the Kooyong Road shops and back home yesterday - 2 or 3 people wearing masks on the 3 or 4 buses I saw. And, surprisingly, I actually saw one of the drivers wearing a mask!!

I thought for a minute that it might have been 2 bus drivers wearing masks but it turned out one of them just had a long, dark beard.

Now I'm just waiting for the "You do you" signs to appear on our public transport.  Roll Eyes

I caught a bus into the office this morning and was pleasantly surprised.

Most passengers were wearing masks, and many of the passengers waiting at bus stops and at the Vic Park transfer station were wearing them too.

I also noticed that the police have moved on the crazy anti-vaxxers from outside Government House (out of respect for Lizzie).

They're doing their demented silent protest at the kangaroo statues next to Council House now.

jeez carl, youre an outlier.

you are outside the overton window.

What is the Overton window?
Definition and explanation
The Overton window of political possibility is the range of ideas the public is willing to consider and accept.

In the United States, the idea of different races mixing in public or women’s suffrage were once considered fringe, extreme policies. That they’re now deemed common sense, reflects progress in shifting the Overton window.

A politician seeking to maximise their chances of reelection should determine where the Overton window for key policy issues is, via public opinion polls and other means, so they can successfully campaign on those ideas.

This full page ad was in today's The West Australian.

"We need to protect WA".

Yeah, OK... but we also needed to protect WA from Covid (and we did for 2 years) but the WA government finally caved in and gave up just like the rest of Australia.

I'm sure the same thing is going to happen with FMD before too much longer.

Bit too much of an ask there, I reckon...
4
things are in that ad where the WA government is asking for "personal responsibility" from the population. And we've seen how well that worked with Covid, didn't we?

I've fixed it for them in the right hand image.

Thank you, Professor aquascoot.

You post has been duly noted, printed out and filed away in the small, round filing cabinet under my desk which is emptied daily (if I were in an office the janitor would probably do it for me).

The same place where Sir Nail's posts usually end up.

Still not too many wearing masks on the buses I saw when I was walking to Belmont Forum and back this morning. The 935, 998, 999 and 288 routes.

It's great that you've seen quite a few though but it'll be interesting to see how many are still wearing them in a week or two.

A lot of people may not be aware yet that masks are no longer mandatory on public transport, I noticed the same thing earlier this year when masks were no longer mandatory in shops - the first day the majority of people still wore them and the number gradually dropped off after that.

Oh, hopefully the anti vaxxer nutters will be rained on very soon... I'm looking out my bedroom window and it doesn't look like it will be too much longer before it pours down. Hope they've had their flu shots.  Grin

sorry carl.

nail despite his passion holds a view most people do not agree with.

by your own admission YOU hold a view most people do not agree with.

you have gone as far down the rabbit hole of safetyism as nail has gone down the rabbithole of anti-vax.

the mainstream and our political leaders of all persuasions have come round to aquascoots thinking on covid.

they have filed your posts in the waste paper basket

Perhaps they all should read this? The male members definitely should:

I call this thread #dontlookdown

Then we might see how much they've come round to aquascoot's "thinking" on covid.

Shocked

Hey, Marky Mark... what are you going to do with this white elephant?

Bullsbrook COVID quarantine facility: Build complete but skilled worker housing ruled out, Mark McGowan says

Quote:
Construction of WA’s quarantine centre has finally been completed at a cost of about $400 million — but it still doesn’t have a use, with its isolated location scuppering skilled worker accommodation potential and Commonwealth detention suggestions sure to anger locals.

The Federal Finance Department, which oversaw the building of the National Centre for Resilience near the RAAF Base Pearce in Bullsbrook on Perth’s northeastern fringe, confirmed the price tag and the issue of certificates of occupancy on August 31.

Was bad enough when it was supposed to have cost 200 million but it has ended up costing twice as much - 400 million. And now there will be the ongoing "maintenance fees" to add to it.

Would have been great if this had been ready 12 months ago - we might not be in the Covid mess we're in at now if it had been although I'm sure some incompetent clown would have ensured Covid got loose here anyway.

Quote:
The State asked business groups in July about a proposal to use it for short-term accommodation for interstate and overseas workers, particularly from industries hardest hit by the labour shortage.

But on Tuesday, Premier Mark McGowan confirmed the facility had been found to be unsuitable for these uses mainly due to its location, a lack of surrounding services and amenities, and constraints around the design based on short stay quarantine.

Actually, it's probably because interstate and overseas workers (and tourists) are not exactly flooding into WA right now and who can blame them with Covid sickness and death everywhere.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

Idiots.

Hi Carl

When people in authority go on and on and on about something
It develops the tone of a song that was played on the radio too much
Eventually the population tune it out and have a visceral reaction of yuck when they hear the message

The vast majority of the population react to kovid in such a way
Like that pop song that used to enjoy listening to
Now when it comes on they just go
Change the channel I don't Vibe with that music anymore

The DJs at the state public health units
Really did everyone a disservice
By overcooking the message

Predictably everyone is turned out
Except maybe you and Greg who appeared to be hardcore fans

I suppose that's good for you

You and Greg can have front row seats at the covert concert
Unfortunately you won't have that awesome Vibe of a mass audience
It's probably just going to be the two of you

Time for another exciting episode of "Spot The Mask".

Taken by me in Belmont Forum just before noon today. I was wearing my usual KN95 mask, of course.

(Hint: there's only ONE person wearing a mask that I could see).

This 'game' has really turned into a Where's Wally/Waldo? of mask wearing (and personal responsibility).

I should have taken another picture when I was up at Belmont Forum again today.

Twice as many people, half as many masks to be seen.

And, seeing as I didn't see many masks yesterday, for a while there I thought I was the only one in the shopping centre wearing a mask.

Saw a few more maskless elderly shoppers sanitising their hands and shopping trolley handles before going into Coles and Woolies. And, the Woolies staff are still wearing their "Covid Safe" green vests with "Please stay 1.5 metres apart" with an image of a shopping trolley to demonstrate the distance of 1.5 metres on the back.

And, the checkouts still have those pointless perspex shields between the customers and staff.

At least the "Please Stand Here" 1.5 metre distancing floor stickers appear to be gone at Woolies - don't know if they've been pulled off or they're just worn out. Roll Eyes

Not only are governments trying to kill or maim us with Covid but here in Perth they're also trying their hardest to smother us with smoke as well.

WA weather: Smoke alert issued for Pickering Brook, Kalamunda and Perth CBD

Quote:
A thick blanket of smoke has covered Perth on Sunday afternoon, causing low visibility and air quality across the City.

Prescribed burns carried out by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions prompted a smoke alert to be issued for Pickering Brook, Kalamunda and adjoining eastern areas of the Swan Coastal Plain through to the Perth CBD.

That's actually the second or third day in a row but Sunday was the worst.

Hey, Marky Mark (McGowan) - not much point trying to attract overseas tourists to Perth to see the beautiful, clear sunny weather from Kings Park if all they're going to see is a city and suburbs smothered in choking smoke.

"Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions".

Not going to attract too many tourists if they keep this up.

Hint to the government morons: don't burn off unless there's a west/southwesterly wind blowing so the smoke is blown away from the Perth metropolitan area (we've had east/southeasterly winds the past few days).
