Sad news today about the death of Tricia the elephant at Perth Zoo.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-06/perth-zoo-elephant-tricia-dies-aged-65/10...

Without taking anything away from the sadness of Tricia's passing it's interesting to see today's West Australian with Tricia making front page news plus a 2 page story inside about her and a 'centrefold' souvenir photo in the middle of the paper.

All very nice, of course. But, there isn't a single word about the ongoing Covid deaths around Australia including the 8 WA deaths reported today making 399 deaths for WA since February.

Even Mark McGowan paid tribute to Tricia but he still has nothing to say about all of the Covid deaths or even offer condolences to their families.

I believe "Rowee Rainbow" here sums things up pretty well:

We truly are a messed up society these days.

Seems there were more people wearing masks at Belmont Forum yesterday than there are at Joondalup today.

Just had to go to Joondalup shops - it was literally busier than I've ever seen it - school holidays

...and I only spotted two other people in masks

I've started to get a few funny looks when I'm wearing a mask while I'm out shopping at the local IGA or at the Forum.

I'm just waiting for a smart comment - I have a few choice replies rehearsed and read to go.

For example: "I believe there's still a few beds available in the hospitals but I'd rather not have to go there".

Ah, this is very interesting. Mind you, it wouldn't be the first time this has happened and I'm sure it won't be the last.

And, probably the same thing also happened in the other States.

‘Appalling’: WA govt accused of preferencing political donors

Quote:
WA’s leading corruption body has received allegations the state government gave preferential treatment to political donors during the Covid pandemic.

The claims emerged this week during an unfair dismissal hearing by the Public Service Appeal Board.

Former electorate officer for Deputy Premier Roger Cook, Sanja Spasojevic claimed she was instructed by the then Health Minister to fast track entry applications for members of the Labor Business Roundtable.

Roundtable members pay thousands of dollars for access to senior members of the government including Premier Mark McGowan.

Quote:
“All G2G applications made during the COVID-19 pandemic were assessed and dealt with by WA Police Force in accordance with the Emergency Management Act directions in force at the time,” the statement said.

Yeah, sure they were. I've heard several people claim that G2G passes were being automatically rejected during WA's border closure (except for the rich, "celebrities" and sports "stars", of course). Same as I heard they were being automatically approved when WA went from a hard to a soft border on February 5th prior to the full 'let it rip' disaster a month later.

Quote:
Ms Davies said the allegations were serious and warranted further investigation.

“If they are found to be true, it would be a huge betrayal of trust for the many families who were separated and denied entry into Western Australia under the McGowan Labor government’s G2G system,” she said.

Might explain why McGowan kept us safe for 2 years then did a complete turn around with his let it rip attitude that’s killing dozens of Western Australians weekly, hospitals and schools in crisis, etc., etc. but let his mates do whatever they asked for.

Greedy, corrupt b@stards, the lot of them. Labor and Liberal. The real tragedy is that I'm sure none of them will ever be held accountable for the Covid disaster currently engulfing Australia.

Wow, I must read this when I get The Sunday Times this morning.

https://twitter.com/westaustralian/status/1545743326489477122

Don't tell me we're finally going to see some honesty from our West Australian/Sunday Times rags?

Hopefully, it might wake a few more people from their 'Covid slumber' and we might see a bit more mask wearing next week?

Well, well... wasn't that a surprise? Finally some rare, truthful reporting from our newspapers.

From yesterday's Sunday Times:

From Doctor Andrew Miller:

...

Closeup with the most important thing I have seen (I've highlighted it in yellow) printed in our media about Covid in a long time:

...

As I said yesterday, I hope many people have read this and we'll hopefully see more people wearing masks this week.

I was pleasantly surprised when I went out for a drive with my elderly aunt on Saturday afternoon (despite the rain) and we called into the Eric Street Shops in Cottesloe. After we had a look in IGA we took the lift down to the basement carpark and when the doors opened a young man (probably in his early 20's) got in after we got out and he was also wearing a high quality mask the same as we were.

We exchanged smiles and said hello as we exited the lift and he got in... it was that "knowing" smile which conveyed the message that we hadn't swallowed the "pandemic is over" Kool-Aid like almost everyone else has.

Another great opinion piece by Dr. Miller:

I'm surprised our newspapers are now publishing these... have they suddenly realised that more and more people are waking up to the fact the pandemic isn't over and is actually getting worse?

Let's see how long they keep doing this for, shall we?

I'm off to get my fourth shot today.

Not sure where though.

I've just booked my 4th shot for this Thursday at our local Terry White in Kooyong Road now that I'm able to get it before I turn 65 on August 5th.

I might just get mine from my GP.

Looks like the Perth Convention Centre clinic has closed down.

Or, I have to go to RPH later today - might see if I can just walk in there.

My GP would have been my first choice but they're not doing Covid booster vaccinations.

I did have my second AstraZeneca dose at my GP last September though (first AZ was at the now long closed Perth Domestic Airport State clinic in June last year).

Had another awesome display this morning of that "Personal Responsibility" which we are now all supposed to have (which has apparently now replaced "Public Health" Australia wide)-.

Spent 10 minutes on a Transperth bus (oh, the horror!) and we were all "entertained" by the 3 maskless swearing teenagers (every second word seemed to be the F word) on the back seat with their 'boom box' blasting out rap "music" non stop.

Bus driver didn't do anything about it, of course. I thought she might have radioed Transperth Security and I was expecting them to appear in one of their patrol cars but that didn't happen either.

Masks are still mandatory on public transport here in WA, by the way.

Not sure how much more of this "Personal Responsibility" and "Community Spirit" I can take.

I caught a bus into RPH this morning.

The two youngest passengers onboard (early 20s) had their masks over their chins - not on their mouth or nose at all.

When I got to RPH, there was a young guy in the lift (stoned) not wearing a mask at all - didn't even have one with him.

WTF?   Roll Eyes

I long for the 'good old days' when I caught the bus to and from school in the late 60's and early 70's. Transperth was called the MTT (Metropolitan Transport Trust) back then.

I remember the prominent signs on the buses which said something like "Children must stand for adults or pay full adult fare" or words to that effect. Not "should stand" like we see today. However, I think the only ones now are the signs for the seats at the front for the elderly and people with wheelchairs and prams.

Same as school students and their concession fares being told they must stand for adults in my school days. Mind you, back then the majority of young people would give up their seats for adults regardless of whether there were signs or not.
