I'd suggest Carl ask his aunt to tell him about real suffering, like economic depression and world war. At 92+ she's experienced real crises; not the tepid one we're living through.

I'd like my aunt to tell some of the selfish pr*cks we see every time we go out who seem to find it a major inconvenience to do something as smple as wearing a mask during a raging pandemic to protect the elderly and vulnerable about real suffering.

She also lived in England during World War 2. Nowhere near the bombings thank goodness. She was born there, same as me and the rest of our family.

If your family lived in England during WW2 then they'd understand real existential threat, not WA's current comparatively pissant threat.

Speaking of suffering...

... just imagine people being asked to make a sacrifice like this today when a lot of them can't even be bothered to wear a mask and just stay home when they're sick with something like the flu or Covid.

Eyam plague: The village of the damned

Quote:
On 1 November 1666 farm worker Abraham Morten gasped his final breath - the last of 260 people to die from bubonic plague in the remote Derbyshire village of Eyam. Their fate had been sealed four months earlier when the entire village made the remarkable decision to quarantine itself in an heroic attempt to halt the spread of the Great Plague. This is the story of the villagers who refused to run.

Most people today are too busy screaming about their rights to do whatever they want but totally ignore (or couldn't care less) about their responsibilities (to consider others).

This is for all the maskless lemmings I see daily who have swallowed the government/big business Kool-Aid about the pandemic being over.

When do you think we should stop wearing masks?

When the pandemic is over.

Which doesn't look like happening any time soon.

Meanwhile, just to show how disconnected from reality Mark McGowan has become in the past few months:

Reconnect WA tour: Mark McGowan, Roger Cook to travel overseas to tell world State is open again

Paywalled again but I'm sure you get the idea.

Well, have a good time, Mark and Roger. I'm sure our overwhelmed hospitals will be able to cope in your absence. I suppose they will have to, eh?

Another reason why WA has dropped the masks, of course. Doesn't create a good impression for international tourists if everyone here is masked. Same as what happened with the dropping of masks in the other States... nothing to do with health... $$$$ again.

Oh, I had to laugh at this (found it when I was looking for a non-paywalled article):

https://timesverge.com/reconnect-wa-tour-mark-mcgowan-roger-cook-to-travel-overs...

Quote:
Premier Mark McGowan and his deputy Roger Prepare dinner will criss-cross the globe in a world tour of not less than six nations in seven months to inform the world WA is once more open for enterprise.

Denial of responsibility! This post is auto generated.

I'm just trying to picture how ironic (not to mention funny) it would be if these two clowns caught Covid right after arriving at their overseas destinations and had to spend a few weeks in quarantine or fly straight back to Perth.

Probably not quite as ironic (and/or funny) as it would be if they caught Covid here just before boarding the flights (or on the flights) and they then spread it amongst their overseas hosts upon arrival... especially after planning to tell them how 'safe' they believe WA is now.

As Mark McGowan and Roger Cook prepare for their overseas junket in an attempt to drum up business for WA I wonder if they're sparing a thought for all of the small businesses that have gone/are going to the wall because of Covid being 'unleashed' here?

I took my aunt to her GP in North Perth this afternoon and we called into North Perth Plaza to say hello to Donna and the staff at Baci Cafe who we haven't seen for about a month and a half (we would have lunch there about once a week before Covid).

Imagine our disappointment and sadness to see that they closed 3 days ago... if we'd known we would have gone there on Saturday to say goodbye and wish them all the best. I know they were having problems with a drop off in business the last time we saw them but I thought they would be OK (I noticed the Evropa Cafe next door to them is still open for now at least).

This is on top of all the small businesses we've seen closed at places like Gosnells Railway Markets over the past few months and I'm sure there's many, many more around Perth and suburbs.

But, hey... they're only SMALL businesses, right? As long as big business (airlines, etc.) are back to making the big bucks they couldn't care less about anyone else, could they?

Lies, lies and more lies.

https://twitter.com/ermahhgod/status/1536998971427913728/photo/1

"With WA's soft landing secured, and the peak of our Omicron outbreak behind us"

I'm sure the families of the 313 West Australians who have died from Covid in the past 3 or 4 months will be pleased to hear that.

And here comes the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 variants just in time for winter.

Also...

https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/health/monkeypox-wa-has-first-brush-with-diseas...

Quote:
WA has had its first brush with a monkeypox case after a person diagnosed with the infectious disease spent four days in the community during a visit to Perth last month.

Through contact tracing, health authorities have since confirmed there have been no secondary cases and the person’s close contacts — one higher risk and four lower risk — remain well.

The case was infectious in WA for four days before they flew out to the UK where they were diagnosed three days later.

Fun times ahead... buckle up, everyone.

https://www.wa.gov.au/government/announcements/mask-wearing-mandates-be-removed-...

Quote:
From 12:01am, Saturday 18 June, mask wearing mandates in airport terminals in Western Australia will be lifted.

This is in line with the latest national advice (external link) from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC).

Masks must continue to be worn on aircraft as per existing requirements, and are still encouraged to be worn in international and domestic terminals if people wish to wear one.

So.... why exactly are they being removed?

"12.01am" (and not a minute before) - more typical government BS.

While Mark McGowan is off doing his European Tour (a slightly smaller version of Airbus Albo's World Tour) here's what we've been left with in Perth:

https://twitter.com/EMacskasy/status/1544670690069979138

Quote:
I am sitting in the triage unit at the hospital. There are so many mothers in here holding their young children who r coughing, distressed, unwell.
Mostly respiratory issues from what I can see. It is heart rending. They r too young for covid vaccine.
If only people masked up

I'll quote some of his other posts here because they're not in a single thread:

Quote:
3.25 hrs in ED. Some have been seen. Some have walked out. Many are losing the will to live.
The hard seats do not help. Truly a torture device designed  to numb the bum.
Periodically,  a cleaner comes out and brushes cobwebs off the old lady in the corner.

Quote:
Hour 5. Have relocated to the concrete floor outside ED.  Too many unmasked people inside the waiting area. Added bonus is the concrete floor is more comfortable than the chairs inside.

Quote:
I have found Purgatory.
Finally, the last of the 3 Geoffreys has been taken.

I fear it will be a long night.

Quote:
2.52 am.  Only 6.5 hour wait in ED. I shouldn’t complain. I am sure there are many countries where this would be seen as a very short wait.  Yawn!

Quote:
Still in the ED. Why is here always one idiot in every group. Security has just removed an abusive poo head who has been carrying on for the last hour.  Final straw was him refusing to turn off loud vile “music”. Now If he had played Doris Day

Pretty much the same thing is happening all around Australia, not surprisingly.

And, for those who are still keeping score, WA's daily Covid cases are on the increase again, same as the rest of the country.

https://ww2.health.wa.gov.au/News

Probably time to close down a few more of the remaining PCR testing places to improve the numbers.

I mean... what hope do we have when I saw a temporary desk set up in Belmont Forum yesterday near JB Hi-Fi and the 3 people manning the desk were handing out free RAT's and not one of them was wearing a mask?

Should be handing out free masks, not RAT's (which apparently are notoriously unreliable for detecting Omicron and it's numerous variants).

Really?   Roll Eyes

I wouldn't go anywhere near Belmont Forum without a mask on.

Especially during school holidays.

Wasn't very busy when I was at Belmont Forum yesterday near lunchtime even though it is school holidays.

Apart from myself and my aunt there were probably no more than about 20 other people I saw wearing masks. We didn't stay in the shopping centre long and we definitely stayed well away from the food court.

Another 6,387 cases and 8 deaths reported for WA and 60 deaths for Australia.

I was at Vic Park Woolworths earlier today, and there were more people wearing masks than in previous days which is good to see.

Still only about 20% though.
