We're in lockdown!

Man, there'll be some toilet paper fights at Woollies this afternoon  Grin

From midnight tonight, Perth is in lockdown for three days.

The entire long weekend (we get two Anzac Day holidays - Sunday and Monday).

I had a funny feeling this was coming, so yesterday I did all my shopping (for myself and my parents), filled up the car with petrol, and filled the wine racks, etc.

Perth and Peel plunged into three-day lockdown after quarantine hotel COVID transmission

Perth and the Peel region have been plunged into a three-day lockdown after several people contracted COVID-19 while staying in hotel quarantine.

The lockdown will begin at midnight tonight. Masks will be mandatory from 6pm, although the Premier Mark McGowan recommended people wear them immediately.

Anzac Day services around the Perth and Peel regions have been cancelled, with Mr McGowan urging people to take part in driveway dawn services instead.

I'm quite looking forward to a long-weekend of Netflix, guitar playing (and maintenance), and relaxing outside with a good book and a glass of wine.

It's gonna be great.

I get up at 4am most days.

I'll have plenty of time this long-weekend to catch up with a lot of stuff.

And I get out of two lunches that I didn't really want to go to   Smiley

I am forced to live in Perth at the moment, luckily not in a dog box apartment.  We went into the city today for the promise of a decent meal.  What I noticed, lots of homeless, lots and lots of homeless camped in shop doorways everywhere and on the street begging and carrying on.   I havent seen that many homeless anywhere since I was in SF during the GFC. The city appeared to be nearly deserted apart from the homeless, lots of businesses closed down and a lot looking like they were hanging on by a shoestring. Refuse and garbage everywhere, junkies shooting up in full view. It really was depressing. No cops around but quite a few Indian security guards patrolling the malls in groups of 3 and ignoring anti social behaviour, the guards all seemed pretty fearful. The suburbs are thriving, I think Perth city has had it though. You cant charge $15 an hour for parking for this sh1te.

Yep, I was in the city today and you've described it perfectly.

Unfortunately, it's like that every day.

The amount of homeless people and beggars is truly amazing.

There are two now who live in my office doorway.

London Court is up for sale at the moment - I don't think they'll get much for it.

Well, this is uncanny... when we had the first lockdown a few months back the first I heard about it was when I read your post on this forum at the time and the same happened when I came here yesterday afternoon.  Shocked (I've been busy trying to sort out a problem with my older PC last night and again this morning and I finally gave up).

Anyway, back to the topic. What I would like to see is all the small businesses who are losing so much money (or even their entire business) due to this latest lockdown get together and start a class action lawsuit against the Federal and/or State government then we might see how quickly they sort out this ongoing hotel quarantine fiasco.

As I've said before, I'm amazed at how quickly the Federal and State governments have set up things like Covid contact tracing apps, etc. but when it comes to setting up proper quarantine (i.e. not in city hotels) for all these "returned travellers" (and also things like helping the unemployed and homeless) they're slower than a wet week.

I know the owners of 2 small businesses, one lost $20,000 and the other $5,000 during the last 5 day lockdown and I'm pretty sure they're not too happy right now. And, they're just the "tip of the iceberg", so to speak. Also, with JobKeeper finished, there will be a lot of staff (especially casuals) who won't be getting any pay over the long weekend.

I wouldn't want to be a casual worker who has rent to pay - especially since rents have skyrocketed here after the WA rent increase/eviction moratorium finished at the end of March.

‘Just nuts’: Perth Mercure Hotel patient zero travelled to India for a wedding

https://www.watoday.com.au/national/coronavirus-australia-update-live-perth-in-l...

Quote:
A man believed to be the patient zero of the Mercure Hotel cluster had recently returned to Perth from attending a wedding in India.

Quote:
The Victorian man, who has since returned to Melbourne, spent five days in Perth as a ‘tourist’ visiting several sites and transmitted the virus to a Kardinya receptionist who had hosted him at her home.

Quote:
Premier Mark McGowan made the revelations during a press conference this afternoon, adding it was “just nuts” the federal government had allowed people to travel to high-risk countries.

“The person in the hotel the other day who was infectious had recently gone to India, who passed it onto the people across the corridor,” Mr McGowan said.

“It was not his fault that it spread across the corridor. But the fact of the matter is the Commonwealth let him go to India recently.”

Mr McGowan said Australians travelling to countries with large COVID numbers and then returning a positive test had become a growing problem. Some, he said, had travelled to Europe and Africa to attend sporting events.

“We should be dealing with that issue,” he said.

"Just nuts" is probably the politest way to describe it. WTF is wrong with people? Especially the Federal government for allowing these people to travel. I'm surprised we're not overrun with Covid in Australia by now.

Yep, crazy.

A stupid wedding has now disrupted 2 million people, and put many at risk of infection.

Perth records positive community-transmitted coronavirus case on day one of lockdown

The WA Health Department has confirmed a positive COVID test result has been returned from a person within the community on day one of Perth's snap lockdown.

The man in his 40s presented for a COVID-19 test yesterday as he had gone to one of the locations visited by the COVID-positive Victorian case.

It must be everywhere by now. I saw the list of places he visited, 2 different restaurants every day plus other facilities.

To be honest there was no opposition, the Liberals wiped themselves out. But Mcgowan is very popular over here, particularly amongst young people, I have no idea why. But West Aussies will get what they deserve for electing him. Everything has gotten worse since he was elected, hospital system stuffed, OMCG  out of control, meth problem worse, he has no solutions except knee jerk reactions and he is a blatant liar. Look at the way he covered for his old buddy Cook, what a disgrace, blatant lies, the guy thinks hes invincible and look at his ego, blatantly lying to support Cook and knows he will get away with it. Wasnt even questioned in the local media.  West Aussies just arent that bright and he is representative of the population. Its obvious there has been a lot of inbreeding over here.

This will be the final nail in the coffin for a lot of businesses judging from what I saw in Perth the other day, all entirely due to one stupid self entitled Indian. They need to publish this faukers name.
