True.

But, many people call an ambulance for things that are not emergencies.

That's why we've seen "Save 000 for emergencies" advertising here in WA (and probably the rest of Australia) lately.

I read somewhere a while back that some people were even calling 000 for an ambulance to take them to get tested for Covid at State run PCR testing locations.

Calling an ambulance is not dispatching an ambulance.

True again.

But, I suppose it all boils down to what the person calling for an ambulance says to the operator who takes the call.

If it sounds like a life threatening situation then I'm sure the operator would need to 'err on the side of caution' and dispatch an ambulance.

Regardless of whether or not an ambulance is actually sent these people are taking up precious time which may result in someone who really does need an ambulance not being able to call for one and get through to a dispatch operator as quickly as possible.

If WA is similar to other emergency services around the (first) world, the operators are very discerning about dispatching an ambulance. They are trained to be.

I'd imagine operators would receive 'negative feedback' from the ambulance service if they dispatched an ambulance over a stubbed toe.

Whatever's going on in WA, I'd say it's not about undiscerning operators.

Speaking of ambulances.

I don't know about anywhere else in Perth but here in Rivervale I've been hearing a lot of sirens the past few weeks.

Day and night.

I can't tell if they're fire, police or ambulance sirens but I strongly suspect most of them are ambulances.

Some people believe Perth may end up like New York was 2 years ago with ambulance sirens non stop day and night when people were dropping like flies from Covid and I have no problem believing that at this stage.

Yep, I've been hearing them a lot lately too (over here on the other side of the railway line).

I just heard someone from the WA Health Department on the radio, and they said that the ambulances have been busy lately picking up people who have come off those motor scooters that seem to be all the rage.

Speaking of which, I was at Boston Brewing on the weekend and there's a scooter shop next door - some of the scooters in the window were between $6,000 and $10,000  Shocked Shocked Shocked

I heard today that a lot of workplaces in Perth are introducing mandatory mask-wearing policies.

I'm happy to see that a lot of people are still wearing them in the shops, and inside crowded public buildings.

That's good to hear, Greg.

Workplaces are obviously realizing that if staff are off sick then it can cause big problems for them. I've heard that a few cafes and other similar places have had to close down at least temporarily due to staff being off sick with Covid.

They could also be worried about potential lawsuits from employees and their families.

Melbourne company sued over dad’s Covid death

(Paywalled but there's enough info there).

Apparently there's quite a few people (including solicitors) who are watching this case with interest and if it is successful it could 'open the floodgates' for similar lawsuits over Covid deaths.

I've also heard that a lot of people here in Perth are prepared to bet that Mark McGowan will bring back mandatory masks and other restrictions next week (after the Federal election).

I'd be happy to bet on that happening as well.

Yep, I reckon he will.

I certainly hope he does.

I'm doing the right thing - I'd like to see others doing it too.

My elderly aunt and I have never stopped wearing masks whenever we go out (which isn't very often lately).

I'll also feel a bit better tomorrow morning when I take my aunt up to the Belmont Seniors Centre to get her hair done like I do every Wednesday (except for 2 weeks back when the hairdresser had Covid) because I've finally convinced my aunt to wear a KN95 mask instead of the surgical blue/white ones.

She tried wearing a KN95 a few weeks back but she didn't like it compared to the surgical ones. I told her if she won't wear a KN95 then I'm not taking her there tomorrow so she finally agreed (narrowly avoided an argument there... lol).

She also walks across to Belmont Forum with one of the other ladies after having their hair done to have a look around before I pick her up at 11am and it's imperative she wears a KN95 there... I keep reminding her that her GP told her a few weeks back that shopping centres are one of the most risky places for getting Covid at the moment.

That's funny, coz I actually convinced my mother to wear KN95s today.

I'm going down to the chemist tomorrow morning to get her some, and I've insisted she wears them whenever she goes to Belmont Forum or Carousel.
