is anyone else troubled by this?

The evidence from a group of girls aged between six and 11 will be p
layed in court next week at the trial for swimming teacher Kyle Daniels for alleged child sex offences.

Daniels, 22, has pleaded not guilty to two dozen charges, including having sex with a child under 10-years-old, when he was coaching young girls at Mosman Swim Centre from mid-2018 to early 2019.

The former Knox Grammar School prefect was supported by his mother Janine Daniels at the John Madison Tower on Friday for a hearing ahead of a five-week jury trial beginning Monday.

Police previously told the court the nine children would be appearing via video link, with one given permission to hold a special toy.

On Friday, the court heard the interviews were “informal”, with parents supporting the girls in some videos and the first names of lawyers used.

Daniels’ barrister Leslie Nicholls told the court a transcript should be given to the jury after the videos are played.
There should be attention drawn to demonstrations in interviews,” Mr Nicholls said.

“They should not have it at the time. They should watch the demeanour, the manner (of the girls) and extent of the questioning.”

Judge Kara Shead agreed.

Unlike a regular trial, Judge Kara Shead told the court jurors would be “scattered” around the courtroom due to COVID restrictions.

“It’s not going to be ideal,” Ms Shead said.

“We might be dealing with a courtroom which is not as we wish. There‘s only a limited number of deliberation rooms available.”

Ms Shead said jurors could be dismissed if they were “worried with the environment”, but she would be discerning.

“We run the risk of people wishing to be excused to go to work the next day,” she said.

Daniels remains on $100,000 strict conditional bail and is believed to be living with his parents in their $2.3 million home on the north shore.

The case was adjourned to Monday.

6 yr olds I am sorry  but this doesnt seem right to me..... many adults find this an ordeal...yet we think this is ok....this will remain part of their lives for a long time to come....why do they have to appear via video it doesnt make it any the less painful. their statements should be enough. Then there is this today, too.

Quote:
Australian Federal Police have charged 44 men and removed 16 children from harm after investigators dismantled a national paedophile ring.

The alleged perpetrators - some of who stand accused of producing their own child abuse material - are now facing a combined 350 charges after a law enforcement referral sparked a nationwide criminal investigation into child exploitation material.

Commissioner at AFP, Reece Kershaw said the year-long Operation Molto had netted offenders in every Australian state, plus the ACT.

he looks very young and it would be hard for a parent to have to deal with something like this but it has to be done- he is a peadophile- he hurt young girls even though he is young himself and looks young- its disgusting  and low behaviour and will come down to how he was parented by his parents growing up- where will it end and how will he be dealt with?

In the usual way I expect !

He was around late teens when this stuff happened !

Just a point before the lynching, the charges are alleged and not proven.

my main concern was the fact  in this day and age we make 6 yr old girls appear via  video link....where they will be seen by jurors and any others in the court room....I think this is more child abuse to be honest...this person who has been charged is 22  hes an adult and likewise should be treated as one...

but children should be protected from all forms of harm.. imo.. and that includes stuff of this nature..

a child will need to hold on to a special toy....seriously the authorities are ok with that......will it make the sentence any long??? I doubt it very much.....

Daniels has been on a $100.000 bail..... what does that tell you?????...

I think his legal representation have a right to hear the witness statements first hand. It is extraordinarily easy to make children manufacture memories . And it has happened before that a large number of children have testified to child abuse and it has turned out later to be a wrongful conviction and the incidents the children testified about never actually happened. In fact its quite common for children to wrongfully accuse adults of child sexual abuse.

Rhino is right. Many children have fabricated lies, mostly stimulated by adults. Take that Circus Family in the Blue Mountains - busted for paedophilia abuse on its staff and trainees. Went for years. Members of the family did long times. All 'fabricated' by children of a mother related to the Circus family that held deep religious discrimination and made the kids fabricate lies of being abused in their care and about other kids. Very nasty consequences from their lies.

I knew a few kids when young who would leave crayon art pictures of big people bending over little people with a dark sky and spiderwebs on the house, around the school for the Teachers to find. Caused a real bad vibe when the Teachers all got very angry when no-one owned up at the Assembly, no matter how much the Teachers pleaded and promised no punishment. First sad, then later angry.

were they accused by a 6 yr old?... I recall the case but not the outcome.....

if there is no way to check a childs story

then how would you deal with it?... ignore it maybe   I dont know how they investigate these cases    but to make children possibly repeat everything in court... I dont care if it is via video.......I think is wrong.

Very sad to hear, nine girls have come forward, where there's smoke there's fire.

I bet this Kyle Daniels has himself suffered from sexual abuse in his younger years, not trying to defend him he should get the full force of the law for what he has done.

And the girls should be counselled so they can recover from this episode in their life, because if they don't some of them may go on to commit the same thing in later life.

Its easy to implant memories, particularly with young children.  Experienced law enforcement officers generally hold a grim view of the world and hold extreme bias. Unfortunately it is imperative that the accusers are held to scrutiny. This young  man may very well be guilty, but if he is not there is more than his reputation at stake here and there are lots of innocent people in  jail.

lot of extrapolation on your part without adequate knowledge.
