I donated to Red Cross when Victoria had those bushfires in 2009, when 173 people died. Then heard that my money didn't go where I wanted it to, so I haven't donated again. You donate in good faith and it doesn't reach the people it is supposed to. Same with all so-called "charities" and door knockers!
Many people had their fingers burned in this donation farce - they lined up with their money to give to those in need and those in need are not receiving it. The ex and I, along with a lot of other people, put our hands in our back pockets to do runs of water bottles and food and emergency supplies to both the RFS and burnout victims - one firm in Brisbane - the boss hooked his driver on Friday afternoon to do a run all the way to Sydney and back and many transport firms put trucks on the road without fee, and many people did runs hundreds of km long in their own vehicles at their own cost to provide supplies.
Then all the donated funds go into consolidated revenues of one kind or another.
The only way to run such a charity is to do it yourself, which means setting it up. That's what the people I've mentioned first have done - it's the only way. They are now branching out into finding a house and setting it up with internet and such so that those who can't access those things have the chance - meaning they can access ways to get assistance money where it is available.
Guess what - their neighbours in a bush rural area (of all places) are complaining about the traffic in and out....
