2017/2018 flu season has been cherry picked because it was a really bad season. A flu season will result in between 20,000 to 60,000 deaths in the USA (with 60,000 being a very bad season).

The Covid-19 death toll in the USA is now 83,000

93,000

That's in just 10 weeks 11 weeks
That's DESPITE a nationwide lockdown
There are still 1,500 people a day dying

I still haven't got a response to this

It was more because it wasn't doing anything in terms of actually helping. Also the ship wasn't treating covid cases. Clearlyalthought stretched not stretched enough to need something pointless.

The hospital ship was turned back because by the time it arrived NY had already peaked.

That has been the case for much of the modelling, but it's like election polling and predictions. The modelling is probability-based. Those who are questioning it and the mouth breathers fighting every action taken to mitigate the spread of the virus deal in absolutes and can't handle the mathematical notion of probabilities.

They're the same people who said everyone got it wrong when it came to the US election when most of the major pundits gave Trump a reasonable probability of winning, they just don't understand, or choose not to as it suites their narrative to claim the predictions were wrong, how the whole process works.

It's the same thing with COVID-19. They are just itching to call all the predictions and the experts wrong so all the work that has gone into avoiding the worse case scenarios is undone because they don't want to show weakness and wear a mask or they're angry they can't go to their Asian massage parlour or spend hours away from their mouthy wives at the pub.

It's not like you're being conscripted to go to war, you're being asked to social distance, wash your hands, treat surfaces as if they're raw chicken and stay at home. Such whiney little bitches. They're probably part of the alpha brigade too...

Don't kid yourself, we've been lucky.

And I hope it stays that way.

If the second wave hits in historical fashion we're not in for a good time.

Hopefully, those fighting every possible action taken by the experts don't ruin it for the rest of us.

It's tempting to want them to be the ones to get sick and die, but they'll spread it more than anyone else, so while I hope that we don't have a second wave, annoyingly I hope that it's not those who are being the absolute worst members of our community who get it, for the sake of the rest of us.

hows it an own goal? Sure, it's good news, but so far it's a long way from replacing what they lost. It's all coulda woulda shoulda .. India's buying nothing yet. Not a single contract in place

Instead of the farmers harvesting their crop and reaping the rewards of their hard work over the year, they now have to waste months trying to get new contracts in India.
