"Australia is a prosperous politically stable country, that wasnt built on Niqabs and female circumcision or segregation of the sexes, it was built on Western values, ".

Well you've seen the facts there was segregation of sexes. Young sexy women in 1900 wore neck to toe. No vote , no doctors or lawyers or business . They used men's names if publishing a book. Drawing rooms were for women to avoid men's talk , 'withdrawing'. Hourglass waists were strings that bound a girl's stomach into ridiculous tightness. Australia was built on that.  Today it continues with 'glass ceiling' , wages and MPs. It was as crook as Islam but slightly improved.

Grin You believe that tosh?

There's no such thing as a "glass ceiling" holding women back.

Neither is there a difference in wages ... you have a woman working beside you doing the same job ... she gets the same pay.

What women want is to be paid for the choices they make that involve them not working.

And what woman in her right mind would want to be an MP(they're paid the same as male MP's too) in the current circus?

Bullshyte x 2. I've seen photos of my gran in the 40s at Bondi in a one piece that wouldn't even get a second look at the beach toady.

But lets give Max Dupain the final word. These are all from 1930-50.

Perhaps some women were self conscious and did wear more coverings than the general fashions of the beach.
I was not one to feel comfortable wearing bikinis as that self conscious teen thing in the 1960s made us feel, especially if well endowed and unlike Twiggy. So I just wore a sleeveless summer beach dress or jeans and t shirt on the beach.

It helped from getting badly sunburnt too as we didn’t have 50 plus blockout then. In fact oil was used to enhance the sun baking more!

Chimeras gran and many other women in that time, may have been very fair skinned and as I seen in many fashion books most females liked to keep their hats, glasses and long sleeved outfits on during summer to protect their skin from burning.
In a way it’s sensible, like nowadays we have anti cancer council long sleeve tops and bathers to cover and protect our skin from getting skin cancer.

Chimera is one of those triggered people.
Apparently it's that shytter laugh and cry.  Grin

If this is the case then it's slipped in through the cracks under a different user name.
Now why would one do that other than to antagonsie?
Poor desperate soul.

I have to disagree along with Setanta on this, I don’t think chimera is LTYC either.
Different style writing and some opinions chimera holds were not on par with  LTYC.
Bring back Laughtillyoucry!

Yet fashion in Australia now is virtually free of moral and religious constraints and totally dictated by freedom of choice.

You CHOSE not to wear a bikini and that's fine but how would you have felt if wearing one was an offence?

We're becoming more permissive while Islam is becoming more constrained and strictly enforced.

Ask the English what they think of Sharia law.
There are no go zones in England because of it.

Yes I know RE: suppression of fashion for women of Islam, and I truly feel they would love to be more fashionable and colourful.
It is noted how some are, in our country, more updated with colour and wearing headgear, at least with exposed faces.
Aside from some that have been allowed changes, however, there are still many not allowed that choice.
Now, my sons wife, Aussie born gal, long auburn hair, works as an international airline hostess between Dubai and LA.
She lived in Dubai for 2 years, and was courting a Arabic Muslim male.
All good and fine...... until they got engaged, then he dictated to her to change to their ways, religion and dress code, you know what she did?
She told him to get out!
So there it is, why go for a freely dressed liberated gal only to want to repress her?
Now I wonder, how many western women with insecurities get led and brainwashed this way being converted to Islam?
