High intelligence: A risk factor for psychological and physiological overexcitabilities

Abstract
High intelligence is touted as being predictive of positive outcomes including educational success and income level. However, little is known about the difficulties experienced among this population. Specifically, those with a high intellectual capacity (hyper brain) possess overexcitabilities in various domains that may predispose them to certain psychological disorders as well as physiological conditions involving elevated sensory, and altered immune and inflammatory responses (hyper body). The present study surveyed members of American Mensa, Ltd. (n = 3715) in order to explore psychoneuroimmunological (PNI) processes among those at or above the 98th percentile of intelligence. Participants were asked to self-report prevalence of both diagnosed and/or suspected mood and anxiety disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and physiological diseases that include environmental and food allergies, asthma, and autoimmune disease. High statistical significance and a remarkably high relative risk ratio of diagnoses for all examined conditions were confirmed among the Mensa group 2015 data when compared to the national average statistics. This implicates high IQ as being a potential risk factor for affective disorders, ADHD, ASD, and for increased incidence of disease related to immune dysregulation. Preliminary findings strongly support a hyper brain/hyper body association which may have substantial individual and societal implications and warrants further investigation to best identify and serve this at-risk population.

the person credited with the survey has attached certain caveats to his survey which sprinty mistakenly neglected to put up

4. The SSC survey is a bad sample to use for this, not just because it’s unrepresentative, but because it might be unrepresentative of different political affiliations in different ways. For example, SSC Marxists really are surprisingly depressed, but maybe the only Marxists who would read an anti-Marxist blog are depressed Marxists looking for things to be miserable and angry about (though see below for some counterevidence).

They do say that the truly mad don't know they are..... look around you.... oh..is that a mirror over there.. or a reflection of something else...

They say there is a fine line between genius and madness.... there are two wolves inside each of us, and the one that prospers is the one we feed most.... we all walk the thin line between madness and sanity... children of two fathers.... children of two mothers........ only the truly strong will survive and come home safe.....

The rest......... they don't know they're mad.... but I'll rely on the opinions heartfelt of the ex's daughter's two dogs - who love to crowd onto my lap whenever we meet... just like the two bull terriers at the mechanic's... they always know who to head for.... some say this is a characteristic of a predominantly Alien DNA as opposed to the ape genes they interbred with... not too sure about that... but I am Rh - ......

This would be the biggest issue of the whole survey. It was people self reporting. Chances are just as many right-0wingers have mental illnesses that are undiagnosed

If we got your average citizen and placed him on a chair in an empty room he would I have about 5 negative thoughts for every positive thought

Human beings are hardwired to feel negative emotions

This makes evolutionary sense

Of course she should be more scared of the tiger or snake which can take you out
And then it's all over
Meanwhile just how positive can you feel about picking apples from an apple trer
It makes you happy but it's not a life-and-death situation

Knowing that people are more prone to anxiety and depression then to awesomeness
What is the antidote

The antidote is that you have to have a passion and a North Star
You have to bounce out of bed in the morning charged with a desire 2face some challenge and overcome it

It's why lefty politics just does not work.

The left think that happiness will manifest if people are just given enough welfare
Enough free healthcare
Enough free education
Enough free counselling after some or other catastrophe
Enough superannuation
Enough rights

The left think that the route to happiness is to remove the stress and burdens and challenges
And then people will magically manifest a happy disposition

It doesn't work that way
You have to have a challenge to meet
You have to bounce out of bed willing to crawl through the mud to conquer the challenge
And in the facing up to that challenge and fighting the good fight you find your Northstar and your passion

Look at the levels of depression and anxiety amongst welfare recipients
Amongst Aboriginals
The way to help these people is to say

Pick up your cross and bear it with a smile
Be the sort of creature that can feel the strength and power of moving forward up the hill whilst bearing that cross
And then you will have legitimate reason to sit down at the end of the day and reflect on your awesomeness

The left mistake compassion with the permanent infantalised state of despair

Yes we should feel compassion for little babies
For people who are severely injured in a car wreck
And for the very elderly who are weak and feeble

Every other member of society benefits more from a kick up the bum
Then they do from compassion masking uselessness
And big government is usually about compassion masking uselessness

Suicide rates in the Midwest where skyrocketing under the Obama administration
The Obama administration thought that more healthcare more psychologists more counselling was the answer
How very compassionate of them
Of course it failed and suicide rates continue to skyrocket
so much so that the life expectancy in America dropped for every year of the Obama administration

Trump comes in and says to hell with that
We're going to provide jobs
And then you're on your own buster

And the levels of despair depression and anxiety have dropped
Suicide rates have dropped
Life expectancy is on the increase again

Lefty policies and fake compassion are actually deadly diseases
