Greta Thunberg nominated for 2020 Nobel Peace Prize by Swedish MPs

Two members of parliament in Sweden have nominated Swedish teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.
Key points:

    Ms Thunberg founded the Fridays for Future movement that has inspired climate change action by young people
    The two nominators say Ms Thunberg's work opening the eyes of politicians to the climate crisis is "an act of making peace"
    The winner is announced at the beginning of October

Jens Holm and Hakan Svenneling, who are both members of Sweden's Left Party, said Ms Thunberg "has worked hard to make politicians open their eyes to the climate crisis" and "action for reducing our emissions and complying with the Paris Agreement is therefore also an act of making peace".

The 2015 landmark Paris climate deal asks both rich and poor countries to take action to curb the rise in global temperatures that are melting glaciers, raising sea levels and shifting rainfall patterns.

It requires governments to present national plans to reduce emissions to limit the global temperature rise to well below 2 degrees Celsius.

Greta Thunberg inspired a global movement for climate action, but some haven't welcomed her message.

Ms Thunberg, 17, has encouraged students to skip school to join protests that demand faster action on climate change, a movement that has spread beyond Sweden to other European nations and around the world.   

She founded the Fridays for Future movement that has inspired similar actions by other young people.

Any national member of parliament can nominate somebody for the Nobel Peace Prize, and three members of the Norwegian Parliament nominated Ms Thunberg last year.

Last year she lost the Nobel Prize to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for ending a 20-year-long conflict with neighbouring Eritrea.

In 2019, she was among four people named as the winners of a Right Livelihood Award, also known as the "Alternative Nobel" and she was named Time magazine's "Person of the Year".

The Norwegian Nobel Committee does not publicly comment on nominations, which for 2020 had to be submitted by February 1.

According to the organisation's website, at the beginning of October the Nobel Committee chooses the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates through a majority vote.

The decision is final and without appeal — then the names are announced.

So what has she actually done to engender Peace?

Of course not nearly as bad as other Nobel Peace Prize winners. Josef Stalin etc.

Which "climate crisis" would that be?

Increasing temperatures? - no proof of causality. Besides which the Southern Hemisphere oceans were largely unsampled prior to the mid 1950's according to Phil Jones, CRU East Anglia. And the Southern Oceans comprise about 87% of the Southern Hemisphere. Even now it is not well sampled.

Increased drought? - not according to the IPCC.

Increased flooding? - too sparse a coverage for any certainty. Again IPCC.

When the Swedish businessman Alfred Nobel passed away in 1895, he left behind what was then one of the world’s largest private fortunes.

In his last will Nobel declared that the whole of his remaining fortune of 31, 5 million Swedish crowns was to be invested in safe securities and should constitute a fund "the interest on which shall be annually distributed in the form of prizes to those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind".

And here we have, ladies and gentlemen, the entire reason behind the Thunberg phenomenon. As more and more people became aware of the global warming scam the 'progressives' behind it needed a new approach. What better than to use a disturbed 16 year old girl as your mouthpiece? She can be fed all the propaganda to regurgitate on command and if any  criticise her they can be shouted down for picking on a child. Brilliant!....However it is not working. Those that think for themselves can see behind the disgusting manipulation of this poor child, and are dismayed by the lengths the alarmists will go to to peddle their propaganda.

The use of children to advance a cause or political position is nothing new. It is used to appeal on an emotional rather than a rational level. In addition, when you attack the arguments presented by the child your arguments are akin to beating the child up, regardless of how sound and rational your arguments are. Thus, the cause or position gains greater popularity as it remains unchallenged as no one wants to be seen as a "child abuser". Greta Thunberg has been exploited for the same reason by organisation/s trying to advance other political agendas in the guise of fighting Climate Change.

There are people far more knowledgeable, who have worked for decades on solutions that will be far more beneficial to fighting Climate Change and yet no mention has ever been made of them to receive a Peace Prize.
