Unbelievable

[urlhttps://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/children-trapped-in-locked-cars-spikes-as-five-a-day-rescued-during-summer-heat-in-nsw/news-story/911e655a3814e975bf340efabe7b3bcd][/url]

An extraordinary five children every day are being trapped in locked cars – exposing them to deadly temperatures that can reach a “cooking” point of up to 80C.

And NSW Ambulance is reporting a spike in call-outs for the cases - with numbers of incidents where they are called rising almost 30 per cent this summer compared with last year.

As Sydney endures heatwave temperatures today - due to reach 45C out west - authorities are pleading with parents never to leave babies and children alone in cars.

This year so far the NRMA has rescued 136 children from being stuck in vehicles. It followed 150 rescues in December, 156 in November and 172 in October, averaging five per day.

On Tuesday last week paramedics were called to check a one-month-old baby stuck in a car at Belmore and on Friday, a four-month-old was locked in a car at Maroubra and both safely released.

Distressed parents and bystanders called the NSW Ambulance service in 42 of the cases over December/January, compared with 30 cases last year.

“There’s been a 29 per cent increase on last year and that’s significant,” NSW Ambulance inspector Carolyn Parish

“It can claim a child’s life.

In most circumstances it’s a simple accident but the consequences can be catastrophic.”

Inspector Parrish said 99 pc of time parents were absolutely distraught over what had happened and needed support themselves.

NRMA spokesman Peter Khoury said the issue was “a massive problem”.

“Most cases are people inadvertently locking children in a car but there are still far too many cases of parents where children have been simply forgotten,” he said.

On the 49 degree day we had a couple of weeks ago, inside the car within a few minutes it could reach 80 degrees - which is cooking temperatures. That’s no place for a child or pet.”

Children can suffer seizures, heat stroke, fevers, stroke and death from being confined in an enclosed car, with a Port Stephens five-year-old girl dying in December after being found in a car on a hot day.

Mr Khoury said the overwhelming majority of cases were accidental, where parents were rushing and trying to pack groceries or beach gear in a car after strapping the children into seats. In many cases they had handed keys to a child, or put them down in the boot.

Kidsafe NSW executive director Christine Erskine said “keys are not a toy” and to never give them to children, or put them down on a seat where a child can pick them up.

“Better to consciously hang onto the key, pop it in your bra-strap or pocket,” she said. Another problem she flagged was some of the newer keyless technology in some cars, where cars lock themselves, so parents have to be especially alert.

On 7 December last year in Dubbo two children were accidentally locked in a car after it automatically locked itself, NSW Ambulance reported.

Ms Erskin said youngsters suffer heat meltdown within minutes.

“Children do not tolerate heat as well as adults because of their bodies generate more heat relative to their size than adults and they lose more fluids because they have a greater proportion of skin surface for their size,” she said.

Two sisters died in Queensland in November and their mother has been charged with murder, while in Melbourne another mother was charged a fortnight ago with negligence and reckless conduct after her 14-month-old son was left in a critical condition after being left alone in a car in 38-degree heat.

Animals are also suffering from forgetful or negligent owners. The NRMA rescued 151 animals in January and 1528 last year

we have only used 31 days so far! Sad

Australia is full of retarded people driving cars.

They shouldn't be on the road but should travel
on buses where they can lick the windows.

The Lib and Lab supporters and voters are definitely going down hill pretty fast. First it was running over kids in driveways, then smashing cars into shopfronts and lounge rooms, then drink driving with kids in the back, now leaving kids and pets in boiling cars

Next thing we know, they'll be voting the Libs and Labs back into parliament

Accidentally locking a kid in a car is one thing, it happens and provided you call roadservice or smash a window if required that's fine. Forgetting or leaving a kid or dog in a car is an entirely different matter and I think should be treated as murder.

Prison term is the only solution

Until the parent learns to suffer and take responsibility for its actions --- it's all talk

because it's more important to the breeders (with some in particular) to get in to those pokies or pub or grabbing more material crap, than the kid

kids are easily had.  And govt. pays people to have them

if one dies, you can have another in nine months tops and it might be better than the one disposed of .. might cry less or look better, etc.

Russian grandparents threw their living grandchild into a fire and burned it to death because it 'annoyed them'.  Why were the drunken slobs 'babysitting' that child to begin with --- did one or both parents want to go clubbing or similar?

in China, they barbeque dogs alive and grin and jibber as it writhes in agony

but gee, mention eugenics to anyone and watch their faces contort in fury at the very thought their breeding rights might be curtailed

There are creatures being born every minute who will soon be adult humans who will not give a rats, if truth be told, about anyone or anything other than their immediate gratification

always been that way

wouldn't matter if it were leaving a child or animal in a hot car or carelessness in the kitchen leading to children being scalded and maimed for life (if they survive) or children left to drown or children in speeding vehicles or children left with 'friends' who may be paedophiles or … or … or

kids are free

they provide people with feelings of 'fulfillment' and praise for doing nothing more noteworthy than shagging and reproducing

Life doesn't care

that's the thing

Life does not care

All Life cares about is that everything, bar rocks, should replace itself before the original dies

and within that process, many infant things will perish due to the carelessness, selfishness, neglect and murder of the parents

as a society, we have the power to knock a bit of 'care' into the heads of the parents by punishing them when they are responsible for the death and injury of their offspring

until government means what it preaches and actually doles out harsh sentences to people who leave children and animals in vehicles or other restrictive locations, kids and animals will continue to perish and suffer

but humanity is largely insane by this point

In the olden days, not too long ago, prisons were not intended to be 'humane'. They were intended to punish via deprivation of the offender's liberties.  And that was intended to make the offender think twice before committing the same offence

these days, these enlightened days, the UN wags its finger at nations who don't provide comfortable incarceration for criminals and waffles on about 'human rights'.  So incarceration has lost its sting and offenders often become repeat offenders

Sterilisation as punishment for threatening or taking of the life of a child in a hot vehicle, for example, might serve as punishment for those who in any case have proved they are unfit to be parents

but sterilisation ?  In the West?  The UN would have a fit !

so more kids will die, more animals will suffer and die

and people will sympathise with those whose child/pet is dead due to the stupidity and selfishness of those gaining sympathy

and stupid crosses and bunches of supermarket flowers will be photographed by the media

all intended to assuage the guilt of those who, let's be frank, are the killer of their own child

because today, we humans shouldn't have to suffer inconveniences such as guilt, regret, police questions, society's disapproval, should we?   And the offenders can always have another kid to replace the one they killed

so too bad kid, too bad you were only ten months old and couldn't work the car door handle as your parent went to the TAB or supermarket 'for five minutes' and then found an item they needed to study for twenty minutes, or received a phone call they simply couldn't resist, etc.  Too damn bad.  Bet it hurt, being roasted to death.  Bet you screamed before you vomited your guts out and lost consciousness and suffered brain death

never mind.  Mum and her latest squeeze can always replace you and have fun in the process

and government wags its finger and sh*ts itself every time there's a finger wag from the UN's direction.  Because the UN does SO MUCH for the average Aussie, right …. and seemingly talks about caring for children but meh … we all know humans will not stop breeding unless something prevents them from doing so.  Even clinically diagnosed lunatics are allowed to breed

so of course kids are going to die as result
