A mother has been charged after allegedly leaving her baby boy in a hot car for hours in Melbourne's south-west.

Police were called to a hotel on Sneydes Road about 3.15pm on Wednesday to reports the 14-month-old had been left in the vehicle.

He was found unresponsive and alone in the car park - and is now fighting for life in hospital.

The baby had allegedly been left in the car for up to five hours by his mother as temperatures reached 33 degrees outside.

One-year-old in critical condition after being found locked in hot car

A 32-year-old woman has been charged with negligently causing serious injury and reckless conduct endangering life.

She was bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on January 23.

It's outrageous.
I heard about it on 3AW radio today.
The mother is claiming that she was hypnotised by the pokies.

3AW says it happens on average 4 times per day
in Melbourne where an ambulance has to attend.

Many on here were opposed to helping pokie addicts.

The poor woman would have walked in believing that she was only going to be 5 or 10 minutes. There are deliberately no clocks in these areas to encourage people to forget about time.

It is still inexcusable but the reality is that people with this disease are not capable of rational thought once they get near to a machine.

Yes many on here were strong supporters of allowing these sick people to be exploited.
