What a load of crap! These fires are as large as they are for two reasons - the drought and a lack of hazard reduction burning to reduce fuel loads in the bush. If we'd had a decent amount of rain 6-7 months ago, followed up with a serious campaign of burning off fuel loads, these fires would be considerably less destructive and possibly more controllable. Australia is one of the driest, most arid countries in the world. Droughts just happen. Some are worse than others. It's just a fact of life in this country. Nothing to do with global warming.

backburning in NSW was over 2018 -19 exceeded planned backburns and was at record levels ..

where was this reduction in backburning?

Well according to Daniel Andrews who was asked this very question it's not as simple as that simply because the foliage build up is so dry due to climate change and drought that setting fire to it risks burning other peoples homes down which has happened in the past !

Oh noes. You use a politician as a source? Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

But tell me petal why don't you like BoM's rainfall graph for NSW/ACT?

Perhaps as you like Dan so much I should include one for Victoria. Wink

If only we had zero emission, carbon trading, all renewable energy  - CLIMATE ACTION!!! - there would be NOTHING in these national parks to burn any more!!!!   YAY!!!!!    CLIMATE ACTION would magically remove all that flammable stuff!!!  YAY!!!!!

The religious dogmatism and messianic fervour of the climate action kids is astonishing.

So Daniel Andrews is telling lies then ? There are no homes at risk because of back-burning and climate change ??

Poor petal. There are no homes at risk from climate change. Wink

As for backburning; you have just shown your lack of knowledge. Backburning is creating a fire and burning it back towards the bushfire.

So batting nil from 3.

Is Daniel Andrews telling lies when he says it's not a simple matter of fuel reduction or back burning and everything will be alright ??

Yes or no will do.

Nothing entirely due to Climate Change.
Back in the 1800's the lands were more heavily forested but were still reaping the effects of Aboriginal Land Management.
Back then, conditions were far worse than recent with many regions exhibiting +50C periods. There were no Wild Fires of such magnitude that recently have seen.

It's more like Political Australia with its Burke & Wills attitude that has lead this country to a dead end, where the only answer they have to prevent such fires is to bulldoze the remaining 20% of the Australian land mass that hasn't been deforested yet.

It is not a simple matter NOW. It was a simple matter before.

But perhaps you should post his actual comments rather than paraphrasing them. Wink

Can someone explain how converting all current sources of energy used in Australia to 100% renewables will reduce the severity of future bushfires, given that Australia contributes about 2.5% of total CO2 emissions and the IPCC estimates that by 2050 50% of energy produced globally will be from renewables?
