Yes, we do have a choice.

1/ We can stop mining coal.
Stopping our 3rd largest export industry. Breaching international contracts.
Escalating coal prices worldwide.
Halting developing countries development, keeping millions in squalid poverty.
Not benefiting the world environment any
discernible amount.
Joining the ranks of poor countries.

2/ Keep the coal industry running till a viable alternative arrives.
