You know - once this crisis is over, the need will collapse, and all the demands for a fleet of firebombing aircraft etc will go back on the back burner...
I consider this the greatest disaster to have hit Australia, and is only remotely likely to recur on the same scale, and all the political class has to do is sit it out, drink good whiskey and a coldie, and wait until the fires die down.
Where's Bill? He was always at the forefront of disasters... Albo speaks.. does he visit? just saying - definitely not taking sides... but pointing out that all politicians are tarred with the same brush.
Here's a little song I wrote, you might want to sing it note for note:-
Once I was happy but now RFS,
The funding near zero, the pay was much less,
The governments hungry were cutting our cash,
And the pay is exactly the same...
We flew to the fires,
Like our engines were greased,
With hoses and mattocks town troubles were eased,
We fought back the blazes,
And cut down the trees,
And the pay was exactly the same....
When towns were on fire we answered the call,
Went down and fought them with fireboots and all,
Just for the knowledge we were standing tall,
And the pay's still exactly the same.
Well, now the joint's burning, we haven't had rest,
Our clothing is filthy, our gear is a mess,
That some of us won't make it home I confess,
But the pay's still exactly the same.
My son is off on a mission of mystery - saying goodbye to the kids, flying to Sydney, in barracks, then off to a point unidentified.... little 6'5" rat... I want to know...
