Killer whales feed the tourists off NSW
Oct 19th, 2019 at 9:00pm

Whale watchers off the coast of Ballina in northern New South Wales have held a front-row seat to the gruesome spectacle of a juvenile humpback whale being devoured by a pod of killer whales.

The attack happened just 2 kilometres off the breakwall at Ballina, as the local whale-watching charter was running its Saturday morning tour.

Skipper Dean Fuchs said it was one of the most amazing sights he had ever seen out on the ocean.
Mr Fuchs said a mother humpback whale, a calf and a male escort humpback whale were frolicking in the calm conditions when a pod of about 30 orcas emerged.

The orcas managed to separate the calf from the adult humpbacks before drowning and devouring it.

Mr Fuchs said the killer whales then surrounded the tour boat for more than two hours and seemed to be celebrating their kill by bringing a bit of blubber over to the boat.
They are our friends, lucky for that.

It's been a bit of a story around here. I live in Lismore, not far from Ballina. It's been cool watching the too and fro. Poor baby humpback, orcas gotta eat and are doing their thing, tears and understanding of how nature works. Sucks for the baby and it's mum, orcas get what they need and ma Humpback loses a child. The Orcas held the baby under water till it drowned is what I have got from it.

Edit: It's funny that people can't accept man is the same.

I could think of a few people to feed them.

They are as we are. We do eat people, not literally, but we do, we feed off their lives. We have done ever since man was. Well even sometimes literally. Nature is wonderful and ignorant of what we call cruel.

Watched a DOCO a few years ago, on Orca's.

The DOCO makers seemed pretty sure, that there has never been a recorded incident of wild Orca's attacking humans in the water !!!

I was surprised by that.

Humans wouldn't be too dissimilar to a seal ???

Did the whale watch cruise today - no Orcas...

You can't deny an Orca a fair feed - it's tough, but that's how it is.

Now then - on the subject of race horse massacre....... as decent as the gas chambers, eh?

Orcas are top of the food chain in the ocean.

Even great whites skedaddle when orcas are around.

Saw one doco where a female orca killed a great white and only ate its liver, like a delicacy.

About eating humans never heard of it happening but they do eat seals and  porpoise.

You're right. They are not Fish, nor are they 'Whales'.

Eden 'was' famous for them long ago.
But alas, besides the Aboriginals there luring them in by deception of playing an old, lame man to arouse their sympathy to bring in food for them. A blow in also 'stabbed' one of them in front of the Pod, when it was beached when they tried to call for 'help'. They all left, except one old Orca (Tom) and then 'Strike 3' - a Dutch man took over the Whaling Station and refused to give Tom the tongue and Tom died from starvation and betrayal.

For an 'animal' (being?) to freely give their time and effort to us without domestication - we have let them down considerably.

They don't return to Eden and the Museum is just a relic of the past.

Maybe if Old Grapplar returns to Eden, they might come back? Cheesy

Personally, i see the Orca (if they survive Humanity and its destruction of the world) as the best bet of 'Life' (GAEA) going out into the Stars, more than Humanity. They have more potential brain wise than we have and probably are just in 'lavae' stage of evolution. Who knows?

So far, we don't deserve to inherit the Stars and thus only 'machines' make it out there. Maybe an Android/Orca hybrid is the way to go. I doubt Humanity as we are, can make it.
