Was talking to an engineer the other day, he knows some people on the case and said it's only a matter of time.

They're just keeping the case going until they can prove the neighboring construction was the cause.

But won't the construction company that caused it go bankrupt ?  That is the standard procedure.

Unless the NSW Govt steps in these poor people are DOOMED!!!!!

Who will pay for the extremely expensive Legal Eagles if there is a court case ???

I bet the construction company who built the adjacent unit block and undermined the foundations of the doomed block will quickly go bankrupt.

As Cods pointed out, some developers will set up multiples companies to get themselves out of such a situation. The Four Corners report on this topic had such an example where the residents of a multi unit complex were seeing flaws in their homes that required millions to repair. They took the development company to court but, coincidentally, the development company had gone into receivership so they couldn't pay for the repairs. Meanwhile, the owner of the company had separate development companies in operation, so he simply continues operating today without having to worry about paying for repairs on his shonky structures. Got to do what you need to pay for your Italian sportscars, hookers and blow I guess.

Having a national Registered Professional Engineers scheme, including maintaining a record of all modifications performed prior and during construction, could alleviate some of the issues we're seeing in some completed constructions.

People accuse Capitalism of being a "dog eat dog" system, yet it was the Communists who ate each other when they were starving!
