Trump Won't Let Him Testify

Trump won't let Sondland testify because he knows he's guilty.

Democrats to subpoena Gordon Sondland, say Trump’s move to block deposition amounts to obstruction

This is obstruction of justice—an impeachable offense.

Gordon Sondland, our Ambassador to the European Union, got his job after donating $1 million to Trump's inaugural committee. We need to end the corrupt practice of selling cushy diplomatic posts to wealthy donors.

It's not a real impeachment you smacking moron.

Could you be any stupider?

let us know when there's been a vote in the house for a legitimate legal and constitutional impeachment.

Then we'll discuss these matters.  Roll Eyes

Obstruction of justice isn't an impeachable offence, eh?

I guess you're right, dear. By the time Mr Trump's done, nothing a president does will be unethical or criminal. He'll just tell Congress and the courts to fck off.

Cunning, no?

there's no obstruction if your subpoenas hold no legal weight.

Start a real impeachment by taking it to the house for a vote - if it gets through, subpoenas will have legal weight and people that are subpoenaed need to show up.

Thats if the DNC haven't changed the rules on this as you'll see in my new thread.

The text messages show that Sondland, whose portfolio does not include U.S.-Ukraine relations, inserted himself into the effort to obtain a commitment from Ukraine to launch the investigations. At the time, the government in Kiev was eagerly awaiting the release of nearly $400 million in U.S. military aid and the arrangement of a face-to-face meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In one text message, Sondland wrote that Trump “really wants the deliverable,” referring to a clear demonstration from Ukraine that it would undertake the investigations.

You are correct....It is an impeachment inquiry not the impeachment itself....Democrats do not need to have a vote and anyone who refuses a subpoena can be held in contempt....The Democrats are already having their inquiry so why would they want to hold a vote....More obstruction and bullshit from the lying corrupt POTUS!!!

Subpoenas are ruled by a judge, dear. Or in this case, a committee chair.

Obstruction of justice is proven in the intent. If Mr Trump was trying to cover up and hide his ambassador's bribes, that's intent.

If he was just trying to save the ambassador's plane fare to Washington, well. That's a different matter entirely.

Still, it's not up to the pres, it's up to the despondent. Mr Trump's just interfering (to save the plane fare).

Drain the swamp, no?

Wow.

You really don't know anything about subpoenas, do you?

So sad.

I agree, Greggery. Mr Trump came to Washington to DRAIN THE SWAMP. And this is the thanks he gets?

So unfair.

It seems to me that Mr Trump has two options: be open and transparent, as per his promise, or use every opportunity to obstruct and hide the facts.

Here, Mr Trump is hiding an ambassador's political campaign contributions - exactly the sort of swamp-like behaviour Mr Trump said he was going to Washington to fix.

But take Mr Trump's tax returns. Last week, Mr Trump said he wanted to release his returns, just like every other candidate since Nixon has done. Mr Trump wants to share with the American people where he gets his money from and how much tax he pays - exactly the type of transparency Mr Trump has been demanding from politicians his whole life. Mr Trump's life, after all, is an open book. He wants his voters to know where he's coming from. Mr Trump is proud of his financial affairs. They're the reason he's above politics, remember. He's a self-made man.

But do you know? Mr Trump said his lawyers and accountants won't let him do it, can you believe it?

So unfair, keeping his voters in the dark like that. Mr Trump's lawyers and accountants are exactly the sort of swamp-dwellers Mr Trump has always complained about. Mr Trump hopes they change their minds.

We'll wait and see what happens.

White House Formally Tells Pelosi, Democrats to POUND SAND –

Won’t Cooperate with Impeachment Probe,

“Illegitimate”

The White House on Tuesday formally told Speaker Pelosi and three other committee chairs to pound sand, calling their impeachment efforts “illegitimate” and “dangerous,” prompting a standoff with Congress.

White House Counsel Pat Cipollone wrote an 8-page letter to Speaker Pelosi and Dem chairs on three key committees, Schiff, Cummings and Engel, letting them know their impeachment inquiry “lacks any legitimate constitutional foundation,” and violates Trump’s due process rights.

Cipollone also called the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry a partisan effort “to overturn the results of the 2016 election” of President Donald Trump.

“Your unprecedented actions have left the president with no choice,” said the letter signed by Pat Cippolone. “In order to fulfill his duties to the American people, the Constitution, the Executive Branch, and all future occupants of the Office of the presidency, President Trump and his administration cannot participate in your partisan and unconstitutional inquiry under these circumstances.”

“Given that your inquiry lacks any legitimate constitutional foundation, any pretense of fairness, or even the most elementary due process protections, the executive branch cannot be expected to participate in it,” Cipollone wrote.

Earlier Tuesday, the State Department blocked the interview by EU Ambassador Gordon Sondland hours before he was set to testify on Capitol Hill, sending the Democrats into a tailspin.

House Democrats launched an impeachment inquiry into President Trump without holding a full vote on the House floor and Trump is fighting back.

Pelosi is trying to push forward with impeachment without a full vote so she doesn’t expose vulnerable, red-state Democrats who would likely lose their seats in 2020 if they went on the record supporting impeaching Trump.

Furthermore, without a full vote on impeachment, Minority members in the House Judiciary and House Intel committees do not have subpoena power and therefore cannot call in witnesses.

The White House told reporters Tuesday afternoon that no admin officials will testify in impeachment probe. Senior official says “that is administration policy under current circumstances.“

No no, that can't be right, dear. Mr Trump wants to face the inquiry and clear his name, just like his lawyer, Rudy Giuliani. They want this investigation, they've said so all along. Just give me the chance, Mr Trump said. Bring it on.

Whoever in the White House is trying to sabotage this has a lot to answer for. If it was up to Mr Trump, they'd be fronting up and facing the music, believe me.

The sooner we can clear Mr Trump's name, the better.

I like this bit from Serial Liars OP....

Quote:

Here we were thinking the impeachment "inquiry" was about Trump trying to extort a foreign Government to investigate his political rival (without evidence)....And all the time it has been about a partisan effort “to overturn the results of the 2016 election” of President Donald Trump....Go figure???
