AEC POLL Officials
May 17th, 2019 at 4:08pm

I went to Pre Poll today. I got told by the Guy at the desk marking my name off the roll that if I made a mistake, just cross it out and put another number beside it.

I thought, that can"t be right, because there was a sign in there that said, if you make a mistake, just ask for a new form.

I said to him "What" I hope you have got good scrutineers seeing nobody else does that after the polling ends.

I think he thought I was a dipstick.

It's better to be a perfectionist than risk an informal vote. I am not afraid to ask for a fresh ballot.

I've been a scrutineer at several elections.

When counting the votes there are scrutineers from all political parties watching, as well as the AEC representatives.

It's not a case of just the AEC people doing the count.

Labor, Liberal, Green, One Nation, etc. representatives are standing at the table too, watching every move.

It's all above board.

Volunteer as a scrutineer, and see for yourself.

It's actually quite an educational experience.

Yeah, I believe you.  I was married to one, once.  It thought itself a suburban Antony Green

but if it's so above board, why did Palmer get stuck into them and found AEC lacking, if memory serves

So the number doesn't have to be within the square then?

And ... the scrutineers try every trick in the book to challenge votes for the other side.

It just takes one weak-minded returning officer to succumb to the desperate challenges made for vote to be wasted.

Never take a chance ... if you make a mistake, insist on a new ballot paper.

Never leave out a number on the green paper, it's just not worth the risk of having your vote declared informal.

I've been a scrutineer (many years ago) and believe me, there are some real bastards as scrutineers trying to get every single vote they can for their party.

The worst thing about compulsory voting is when there's only three or four candidates on the ticket and you can't stand any of the parties they represent making you spew all over the paper while filling it out

I had 8 candidates on my HoR paper. The first 3 was easy, I deliberated for about 10 minutes trying to decide the last 5.

Katter, ON, Palmer or Anning.

The last was easy, the liberals.
