Dear Barny no one is denying that an atmosphere doesn’t play a vital role when it comes to heating the surface of its host planet.

What I would like to once again point out to you is that our sun supplies the energy to everything it shines on and therefore all the climatic processes taking place on all the planets in our solar system are dependent on the suns energy to exist.

Therefore my cheeky friend the sun drives climate no matter which world your feet are on.

If the sun just happened to turn off, the climate processes on every planet in our solar system would start to wind down and turn of themselves eventually ceasing to exist.

Therefore the sun drives climate and everything associated with it……………….!!!

You single out Venus with an atmosphere consisting of 96.5% CO2 at an average constant temperature of 462°C.

What about Mars with an atmosphere consisting of 95.32% CO2 its temperature is 20°C max -125°C min.

There are too many variables that drive temperature to go through them all but one thing is certain CO2 is but one.

My point is that Venus is hotter than Mercury despite being further from the sun.
The only reason for that is that Venus has an atmosphere (a very thick one) and Mercury has a negligible atmosphere.
So clearly the atmosphere is the overwhelming driver of climate.
As for the Sun, it's luminosity changes less than 0.1% over the course of the sunspot cycle. So for all intents and purposes it will have no impact on changing a climate

Without the sun there would be no climate.......!!!!

And there's not much difference between the maximum average Mercury and Venus surface temperatures but I do agree the atmosphere of Venus is what makes it so uniformly hot.
