42,000 People's Penalty Rates Saved

42,000 PEOPLE'S PENALTY RATES SAVED - NOW TO RESTORE AND PROTECT ALL OF THEM

United Voice Union
Thursday 04 April, 2019

Now the fight continues42,000 bartenders, chefs and waitstaff in clubs all over Australia have fought hard, joined their union and made their voice heard … and have just had their penalty rates saved!

Greedy bosses group Clubs Australia, backed by Scott Morrison and his big business mates, was aggressively campaigning for a cut in Saturday, Sunday and public holiday penalty rates for workers in RSLs, bowlos and golf clubs.   Sad

Long story short – after several years of campaigning and legal hearings the Fair Work Commission totally threw out their arguments … and the 42,000 people’s penalty rates are saved!
WHAT’S NEXT?

While this win is awesome, more needs to be done.

Jo-anne Schofield, National Secretary of the hospitality union United Voice, said “we are under no illusions that this Government and bosses will be on the attack again.

“The reality is - with the LNP in power, no one’s penalty rates are safe. My question to Scott Morrison is - whose penalty rates are under the spotlight next?”

“We have launched a massive campaign to restore and protect penalty rates for the millions of Australians who rely on them.   Smiley

“We will be out there talking to voters in target seats every day from now until the election about the Morrison Government’s atrocious record on penalty rates. Scott Morrison has voted eight times already to cut penalty rates, he can’t be trusted.

“Only Labor will restore and protect penalty rates. Our ads and our campaign will be reminding people that a vote for Labor is a vote for the millions of Australians who rely on penalty rates.

“Voters have a clear choice at the upcoming Federal election – a vote for more cuts under the Coalition, or a vote for Labor to restore and protect penalty rates.”

Congratulations to all the clubs workers across the country.

And to everyone – now’s the time to get involved, join your union and be part of restoring and protecting penalty rates for you and your family.

Together, we will save our weekend.   Smiley

the workplace has changed from when penalty rates were first started and they were mainly for guys who had worked all week and should be compensated for working a weekend.
now a lot of students and women wanting to pick up a bit of cash might actually prefer to work weekends whilst they dont have study commitments and hubby is home to look after the kids.

for a housewife with a toddler  or student, it would be more difficult to work monday from 9 to 5 .
so they would like penalty rates for working during the week!!!!.

denying them cash because of some old fashioned nonsense seems unfair  Cry Cry

People that work weekends and public holidays, should get paid the penalty rates.  A Shorten labor government will restore, and protect the penalty rates.  Within the first 100 days.   Smiley

Its a try on to get cheap labour.  Stop always trying to cut low income workers penalty rates, and wages.   Angry

How convenient!  An election looming and the 'independent' body appointed by the LNP suddenly does a back-flip jelly-fish and lands on top of the bosses demanding penalty rates cuts.

Who'd ever 've thunk it?

Whoa, Neddy!  All of your comments on this issue are way out of line..... in every way not least that the CFFMEU has nothing to do with clubs....  you're becoming fixated .. get a hold of yourself man, people are watching...

Own goal.

Hubby and the kids are at home, while the wife is working.

That's a perfect example of why penalty rates are in place: it's compensation for people who are missing out on quality time with their families.

It is.

However, aquascoot has proven himself to have no regard for the law.

He supports employers who underpay their staff, and now he's supporting illegal cash-in-hand payments.

Is he breaking the law every day in his own business pursuits?

I'm curious.

So, just how much extra money is that for those who got their reduction in penalty rates restored?

Does it compare to the 850,000 retirees who will lose on average $5,000 per year under Shorty's F/C tax grab?  Cheesy

Yes.

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) has said that nearly half a million people are losing up to $6,000 a year.
