They had/have no intention of changing it for the better for the majority - only for their own Chosen Ones.  As long as they can perpetuate their own regime and dynasties they are more than happy to see the peasants wallow in the filth the parties have created for them.. over-crowding, loss of rights and personal sovereignty, crime, campaigns of terror with people striding the streets carrying threatening signs, forces of law poised to break down any door on suspicion and then carry off the incumbent...

It would be easy if this could simply be placed under the umbrella of 'reduce the peasantry down to powerlessness and lack of control over their own lives in order to have easy control over them' - if there was any solid social control in place as used to be in the old days when people respected one another at a basic level.  Remember - you left your house open and nobody robbed you, and the hardcore criminals robbed banks and such and not ordinary folk??

There is NO security for a populace that is kept under constant threat of violence, crime or unwarranted government intrusion.

Now they're lining up to see who can be first to rob your home even when it's locked - and that includes your own government and its agencies at times.  When you steal from a man his means of livelihood, you steal from him life itself.

First the druggies to feed their habits, then the wops to steal your pet rabbits to eat, then the criminal culture immigrants who see theft as a way of life, then your own government intent on stealing your good name and your ready at any opportunity to feed their endless voraciousness.
