So its our ABC now.

https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/business/work/former-abc-managing-director-mic...

The details of ABC former managing director Michelle Guthrie’s unfair dismissal claim have finally been revealed.

Ms Guthrie will receive an out-of-court settlement worth $730,000 after she stopped her legal action against the national broadcaster.

She was sacked in September last year and chose to take on the ABC for wrongful dismissal in the Federal Court.

There has been backlash to her payout, now a total of $1.64 million, from the union sector and within the ABC.

The secretary of the ABC section of the Community and Public Sector Union Sinddy Ealy said it was outrageous that the board allowed the broadcaster to be exposed to such a huge liability.

“ABC staff are as shocked as anyone else at the size of this payout, knowing it means $730,00 won’t be spent on producing quality ABC content for all Australians,” Ealy said, according to The Guardian.

“It’s absolutely gutting that this payout has been revealed at the same time as we’re told that more ABC jobs may be on the chopping block.”

$1.64 million could pay for 16.4 band seven, full-time ABC news journalists for a year @withMEAA https://t.co/pcW2ckIYnA

Who’s pays the compensation? ABC. ABC funded by tax payers. I pay. Who made the decision to sack her? Not me. https://t.co/l9NeVvcLIW

In retrospect, going down the unfair dismissal route was not the wisest move the ABC Board could have taken

HOWEVER, she was due approximately $1.8 MILLION to pay out the balance of her contract

If the same situation had occurred with a commercial TV network, you'd be looking at a payout of around $10 MILLION

... and don't fall for the old "it's not public money" furphy
It's paid for by YOU, THE CONSUMER - every time you purchase goods or services by companies that advertise on television, via an advertising levy built into the purchase price

ALSO remember, the next time you buy an airline ticket, a percentage of that ticket price is going towards that "golden hand-shake" of the next departing airline CEO

she was after all just another public servant.paid a huge sum to do WHAT exactly we never find out... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

on top of that the ABC  wanted it kept secret... the hell they do! Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

INDEED
They're funded by CONSUMERS - every one of us
As pensioners, we don't pay tax (aside from a small amount of GST which goes to the states - not the federally funded ABC)

CONSUMER levies - which NONE of us can avoid, go straight to the coffers of private enterprise, to cover "golden handshakes" in the private sector

Consumerism is an American thing.
Who cares about 'Consumers'?  Roll Eyes

We pay Tax to the Govt's and we charge them a fortune (double) when we do their jobs for them because they outsource to everyone.

Even the French a blowing up their $50 billion from the original estimation for the Subs.

In Australia - the Workers are right, not Consumers.
That's why you gotta be in it to win it and rip that Government off!
Hence why 'everything' costs the Governments 'double', even 'triple' to do anything... like build Irrigation Canals for Floods/Droughts.  Grin

Michelle Guthrie........ Was that the one who was sacked at the behest of the libs because the ABC dared to criticise the government?

Yes.

In a nutshell the Liberal appointed board sacked her for not getting along with the government.

Quote:
Led by an increasingly proactive chairman in Justin Milne, the board, Guardian Australia understands, repeatedly warned Guthrie over several months that in its view she needed to improve her relationship with Canberra and give the ABC executive certainty over the budget, which was groaning from a huge redundancy bill.

Thanks DNA, I thought that was the one.

So this $1.6m payout is the fault ofg the libs, who couldn't help themselves but try to stymie well deserved criticism of their government from the ABC.

More waste by the libs
