https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/business/work/former-abc-managing-director-mic...The details of ABC former managing director Michelle Guthrie’s unfair dismissal claim have finally been revealed.
Ms Guthrie will receive an out-of-court settlement worth $730,000 after she stopped her legal action against the national broadcaster.
She was sacked in September last year and chose to take on the ABC for wrongful dismissal in the Federal Court.
There has been backlash to her payout, now a total of $1.64 million, from the union sector and within the ABC.The secretary of the ABC section of the Community and Public Sector Union Sinddy Ealy said it was outrageous that the board allowed the broadcaster to be exposed to such a huge liability.
“ABC staff are as shocked as anyone else at the size of this payout, knowing it means $730,00 won’t be spent on producing quality ABC content for all Australians,” Ealy said, according to The Guardian.
“It’s absolutely gutting that this payout has been revealed at the same time as we’re told that more ABC jobs may be on the chopping block.”
