An Uber driver accused of raping a passenger in Sydney's west on Saturday night has claimed the sexual encounter was consensual.

Savenaca Rokosiga, 50, appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Monday charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent.

Police allege Mr Rokosiga picked up a 30-year-old woman outside a licensed venue on Commercial Road in Rouse Hill about 11.25pm on Saturday, before stopping at South Street in Marsden Park and sexually assaulting her.

The 50-year-old then drove the woman to her Penrith home.

The woman reported the alleged assault to police about 11.30am the next day, and following inquiries they arrested Mr Rokosiga at a Granville home and took him to Parramatta Police Station.

Mr Rokosiga, a Fijian national, appeared in court on Monday afternoon wearing a blue polo shirt and supported by his wife.

Opposing bail, the police prosecutor said Mr Rokosiga would face a lengthy stint in prison if convicted as each offence carried a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment.

Mr Rokosiga’s Legal Aid representative said the 50-year-old did not deny the encounter with the Uber passenger, but claims the sex was consensual.

Magistrate Peter Feather said while Mr Rokosiga was facing "two very serious charges," he accepted the man had strong community ties and needed to support his wife and two children.

The magistrate granted Mr Rokosiga conditional bail, ordering Mr Rokosiga to hand in his passport and to pay a $2000 surety. He also has to report to Merrylands Police Station between 8am and 8pm every day, and cannot drive for Uber.

Mr Rokosiga will reappear in court on May 9.

Indeed.  I already have cameras in the Cab (as required by Government.)  By 30th June, 2019 ~ I have to outlay $6000.00 to have those replaced so that they record audio as well....as required by Government.
