Real Wage Growth Remains Near Record Low 0.5%

Real wage growth remains near record low at 0.5%   Sad
20 February 2019
ACTU

Real wage growth for Australian workers remains near an all-time record low at 0.5%, according to Wage Price Index statistics released by the ABS this morning.

These figures indicate that it our current rules make it far too difficult for working people to negotiate fair pay rises that stay ahead of living costs.

Annualised wage growth is 2.3 percent, barely above inflation, and well behind the rapidly increasing costs of essential consumer items like housing, healthcare and transport.

The Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison Government has watched the wage growth crisis evolve under its watch, not only not acting to help Australian workers, but slashing penalty rates, opposing increases to the minimum wage, imposing public sector wage caps and siding with employers to entrench insecure work.

Quotes attributable to ACTU Secretary Sally McManus:

“Wage growth staying at near-record lows for years isn’t normal. The system is breaking down, and the Morrison Government is doing nothing to address this crisis for working people.

“Workers have been told by Scott Morrison to wait for wage rises to trickle down. This won’t work, it has never worked. Our Government needs to take action to rebalance the power between workers and employers. Big business has far too much power and only action by our Government to improve the rights of workers will fix it.

“We need to lift the minimum wage, reduce the number of insecure jobs, stop wage theft and upgrade workers’ rights when bargaining in order to see fair pay rises.

“This is the reality of life for Australian workers. Wages falling behind the cost of essential items like transport and healthcare, while the Finance Minister is so comfortable he doesn’t even think about who pays for his holidays. The Morrison Government could hardly be more out of touch.”

You are advocating direct action to raise wages in any given workplace?  Sounds good.................... where and when will they be hanging the managers?  Or is it the guillotine?   Grin  Grin  Grin

Your Chinese neighbours are buying BMWs as a car for their business and as a tax concession - that will have to stop soon.  You can have a Hyandri Littlejob and that's all .... no more Land Cruisers and Ferraris to pick up Chinese vegetables at the markets... or to duck over to Centrepoint Tower for your tax deductible business lunch while the taxpayer funds your $50 an hour parking .......

if a business is set up correctly , then the most competant people will be running shiiit.
guillotining them will not be fruitful.

fat steve and fat janeen wouldnt last a day if we took out all the competant people running things.

if you have worked on yourself, commited to lifelong learning, taken the lessons, contributed value to a business and you feel that you are not being compensated adequately, then you take your skills and your work ethic and you find a business that does value you and you help THAT business to crush it and you demolish the badly run business.
now you have made the world a better place.

what you dont do is stay in the bad business as a little cry baby bitch and spend your day whining and sooking and being sad.

"if a business is set up correctly " ... you got that right, Bro!!  If a business was set up properly and run properly, they wouldn't need or want to rob their workers, would they?  Taking care of your mandatory duties to workers is a huge part of management... and knowing the rules and abiding by them is a huge part of that .... though you wouldn't know it these days...

I reckon the guillotine would be more effective in enforcing the duties and responsibilities of management... just a few here and there.. the big rorters.. and the rest will jump at the chance to fall in line...

we farm beef grapples.
we produce a world class product with no subsidies from the government (unlike the EU and the US).

everyone in the beef industry is a man on "their terms"

if i face a drought or a flood and i went into the local and started to cry and complain and tell my "sad story" i would be laughed out of town.

most producers dont even think these government and channel 7 sunrise drought appeals are a good idea.

it would be better if the government and the mainstream media just left us alone to figure it out because we dont need all that toxic negative neurotic energy ruining our awesome vibe  Wink

That's the chance you take on the land and in business - an entirely different sphere - a worker does have basic rights and they must be upheld, and failure to do so should mean extreme punishment for the wrongdoer.... as a deterrent to the rest... just one or two will do....

Do YOU underpay your workers and demand that they do dangerous things and such?  Do you deliberately set out to undercut their basic pay rights?

Yes - and responsibility works many ways, as do many things.. an employer has responsibilities... you cannot preach to me - I've always 'owned' my work and seen and operated it as a personal responsibility..... even a duty.

Many these days, especially those who masquerade as 'management' need to start looking at their responsibilities and owning their work as a duty, not just a nice little earner for being a dick-head.
