Prediction: the corrupt & inept coalition government will let an asylum seeker boat (or two) reach Australia sometime between now and the election.

It will probably be covertly escorted in, under the cover of night, by an Australian Border Force vessel.

The corrupt & inept coalition government will then blame Shorten and the Medivac bill for the boats returning.

And, the ignorant coalition and swinging voters will fall for it.

When a private members bill is introduced it must be voted on if the Government of the day cannot block the vote....The ALP have every right to vote on such a bill as they see fit....Labor never took it to an election because it was not their policy....How stupid are these Coalition ass holes....Loose a vote on the floor and it's Labors fault....Dickheads???

Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

This is the first time this has happened in 73yrs and the Australian constitution is all the poorer for it.
This also sets a precedent which undoubtedly will come back to bite labor on the bum.

What are you saying....That it is unprecedented for an Independent to introduce a private members bill or it is unprecedented that the opposition vote on legislation before the Parliament....What precedent are you referring too???

Huh Huh Huh

Not a precedent in legal terms but a precedent in dirty politics, it was played for by Phelps to further her political career and hang the consequences, the labor party are in it for their political gain only.
Its just a numbers game for them.

You would expect that Labor knows they will win an absolute majority so I have no idea why they are courting independents.

You would think they would have learned from the last time in government that they can never win in alliance with independents and the greens.

The Morrison government is a minority government that needs the votes of at least two crossbenchers to pass any legislation. Do you have any idea why the Morrison government is courting independents?

funny I dont recall gweg giving a hoot about the 1200 who died on labors watch...

not a hoot! Angry Angry Angry

I don't see you giving a hoot about similar numbers who died during the Howard government. Remember the Tampa incident, cods? Which government was in power when that happened?

Nor do I see you giving a hoot about people incarcerated indefinitely on remote islands and getting sick. Why do you not care about them, cods?

Phelps was up front about her intention to support refugees during her whole election campaign....A private members bill is not unprecedented....Are you claiming it is dirty politics to support a private members bill supported by the majority of the house....Do you understand how democracy works....The fact Morrison lost support of the cross bench including ex Liberals says a lot about the chaos and disunity in the Coalition....Morrison lost the vote and it's Labors fault FFS!!!

Anyone wanna bet?

My money says an order has now been given to those managing Operation Sovereign Borders to allow a couple of boats to slip through so the Libs can sing out, for election purposes, "See we told you so!"

Oh, I see you beat me to it.

Yes, I predict that's exactly what will happen.

Not only allowed to enter, but escorted into Australian waters and then steered towards rocks rather than to a safe harbour.
