SG..the AG..and the Medivac Bill
Feb 12th, 2019 at 3:59pm

So....Morrison has thrown in a spanner.

Advice from the SG to the AG says the Bill is unconstitutional as it involves money allocation, and any Bill which does that must originate in the House.

The Bill originates in the Senate.

It was passed there at the end of the Parliamentary term LAST YEAR.

The advice is dated 7th Feb.  The AG sent the advice to the Speaker on the 10th Feb and asked that the Speaker keep it confidential.

He made it public at the end of QT today.

What I'd like to know is on what date was the SG's advice first sought?

It is all part of political strategy, and really is appallingly cheap, given the humanitarian subject matter, but all the Libs give a stuff about, is stalling a potential loss on the floor of the House.

Amazing.  This is a political forum, and it seems few if any understand the historic significance of today's vote on Medivac.  Not since 1929 has the Govt been beaten on the floor of the House.

Morrison is ONLY the second PM to lose control of the Agenda, and lose on legislation.

The first PM that happened to was wiped out with his Party in the ensuing election.

The libs are only capable of playing gutter politics, no matter what the cost. They have nothing else in their armoury

You're forgetting what happened in 1941. A minority UAP/Country government that was in power with the support of two independents lost control of the Parliament - and lost government on the floor of the House - when the two independents voted with Labor to defeat a Budget bill.

That doesn't diminish the significance of today's vote.

I doubt it would cause an early election. The government would have to lose a confidence vote or lose a significant bill (such as a Budget bill) for that to occur.

Bit of a backflip on policy from Labor

Rudd slams door on refugees

July 20, 2013

No asylum seeker who comes by boat will ever be resettled in Australia, under Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's dramatic and ''hardline'' rewrite of refugee laws.

They will instead be sent to Papua New Guinea for processing and, if found to be refugees, will be resettled in the island nation
