Yeah Jasin I too have wondered why we couldnt be pumping up over the tablelands from the massive east coast rivers in northern NSW to feed inland dams /rivers

It has been claimed the energy required to pump would make it to expensive however I think with the cost of solar now so low, a large solar farm set up purely to power the pumping during sunlight hours (if necessary) could surely pump the equivalent of an average inland river.

dont talk expensive   what the HELL is what is happening called???>..

and now a ROYAL  omg...since when does a ROYAL fix a stinking river system...all itsd does is give legals a job and point fingers... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

why does it make sense to some?????

once the system is dead  its dead.....

have you ever looked at why the Egyptian Empire died..... it was all to do with water and where its supply came from..

the good people of Egypt were eating their babies...to stay alive.... just a bit of trivia there.. Sad

Maybe think about growing cotton and rice where there is an abundance of water?

I know ... too radical an idea eh?

why do we grow cotton here ?? we no longer manufacture it or weave fabric..at least RICE is food.

True, and given the vast amount of water up north ... why not grow the stuff up there?  Wink

Agree, do they grow any up in Northern states where they have wet seasons?

What is the situation in the Ord River development?

I think this as I stated in the OP is the real issue

I think it should be controlled by one authority not a dogs breakfast with all the states and commonwealth involved as it appears now.

so because its in 3 states id say it would have to be 100% commonwealth.....
would they just take over the Murry or all major rivers ?

and then when something BIG like this happens  the smart arses sit back and point their ugly fingers...

it makes me so angry....the tree sitters and frog counters....need to take a good look aty themselves and realise the trees and frogs and our rivers  all need WATER.. that right now is going to waste    and being cursed..

sorry red  this is sad... yet all we do is the blame game...where are all these experts from around the world  we havent got this right  and we are still floundering....bring in the world experts... dont care what it cost...

we havent got the expertise..and we have to many EMPIRE BUILDERS.... Angry Angry Angry Angry

its pathetic... a bit like having a horse with several heads..... Angry Angry

you wouldnt bother would you?...get rid of them all tell them to go and worry about whos got the best coffee machine or office chair...

leave this to people who actually know what they are doing....and will do it because its important not because it will WIN VOTES.. Angry Angry

where are all our greeny chums   they should of course be hiding in shame

after all what did they do to stop any of this??????..

and no it didnt happen in the last 2 or 3 years...States have been doing their sneaky acts for a long time...

where is the majority of that storm water in Qld going right now??  down the storm water drains...but not into any river system...that may have some value.. Angry Angry Angry Angry

bunch of ning nongs..

when was the last time you heard of any minister in charge of WATER or Rivers  being sacked???

'The Murray–Darling Basin is the largest and most complex river system in Australia. It runs from Queensland, through New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and South Australia, spanning 77,000 kilometres of rivers, many of which are connected."

Oh I'm sure Mr Efron could tunnel through much of the steep inclines/gradients to pipe excess water through and the 'energy cost' would be recovered in the productivity of the water being put to use out there.

...meanwhile, they are still trying to 'sneak' Tunnels for the Cities because of over-population in them causing excessive traffic. Imagine if the entire 'Outback' of Australia opened up as a jobs boom in agriculture! No more over-crowded coastal cities.

No CODS, PZ is right - you're doing well and he's not taking the Mickey out of you (in fact, given the chance, he would put the mickey in you if you let him Wink).

Anyway. About 5 years ago - the Federal Government was thinking about spending $10 BILLION to 'replicate' the Irrigation Scheme of the Riverina - up in the Diamantina Region of northern Australia. After that - nothing much has been said or seen about it??

Arabs would 'tunnel' water vast distances with 'drop wells' every so often along them. It was a very clever innovation of transporting water, beyond the touch of the sun.

There are many different ideas and many do work.
But as of yet - the Australian Government is not going to spend big money on something that benefits the future of this country while the Aboriginals still lay claim over 'everything' (even Australia Day).

With a vast network of carefully planned 'Artery/Vein' Network of Water Canals/Pipes all around the nation. Maybe one day, the 'natural' waterways will be left alone to become  'crystal clear' again?

Driving Taxi. I had to take a passenger from the Airport a good 30mins away. He just happened to be extremely 'high up' in the Water Management of the Country and travelled this country far and wide.
He did agree with me on one point: Farmers allowing 'hoofed' stock to trample the waterway edges and ruin the quality of the waterway.
There should be a 50-100m wide 'restriction zone' along every waterway from Farming. Just like there is with Sydney's water supply for quality reasons.

Well said Cods   Smiley

Not sure about the bird watchers though.  Are there any birds left?

Having said that, it's probably exactly who they would bring in as 'experts'.
