Is the statue life-size Aussie?

Looks overweight to me.

That's a delightful statue Aussie. It makes me proud to be an Australian.

FD, put down the pretend pussy for a second, and tell me what do you think of your mods sharing your forum members email and IP address with others ? Is that practice going to be allowed to continue?

A briefly saw a news excerpt on TV about a cat owned by a famous explorer.
What a fascinating story.
It went all around the world with him.

Is this the same cat as mentioned here?

I want you to make it, being the smart arse you reckon you are.  Maybe I am right about you.

Statue for his cat.  Gee....the crew?

Not the point. You asked a question, I answered it. Whether anyone else should have got a statue is irrelevant. You are trying to make something that it is not. Do we then move on to everyone that has a statue/war medal? Get a grip. You asked a question, I answered. If you have a bone to pick, pick it but it has nothing to do with what was asked and what I answered.

I tossed out a bait.  Hooked you.  Gee, I wonder why it was you who leapt on to it.

What are 'they' Setanta?  If you don't know their names, or at least the most obvious, prominent and vitally important one of them, just say so.

You've done nothing of the sort. I answered your question and it matters not who "they" were beyond what I said, his crew.

Nyan nyan , neko chan.

Yeah.

Was it the first cat to circumnavigate Australia?

Yes it is.
Something different in the world of Exploration.
Nice to see a cat get in on the action too.

Notice John Smith didn't like me stepping in on Setanta's behalf against Aussie (but mostly him  Wink) while he attacks Setanta on Aussie's behalf?

Oh! Did you see him try to be tricky and lure FD in answering a question that had nothing to do with the Topic at hand?  Grin

I'd prefer to talk about the cat.
What an amazing tale.
How could a cat survive on a sailing ship without ending up in the sea?
The sailing ship would be a very hazardous place for a cat.
Apparently it would catch rats on the ship so it was allowed
free run of the place.

I had a cat once and it was my best mate.
That cat really loved me.
It used to sleep on my bed every night except in summer.
It's purrs used to send me to sleep.
I cried when it died.
She lived till 18 years of age!

Quote:
Trim was born in 1799 aboard the ship HMS Reliance on a voyage from the Cape of Good Hope to Botany Bay.[1] The kitten fell overboard, but managed to swim back to the vessel and climb aboard by scaling a rope; taking note of his strong survival instinct and intelligence, Flinders and the crew made him their favourite.[2]

So.....that's it.  A cat which had no choice gets a statue, so does Flinders...and no-one else.   I guess there was no 'their' ey, smart arse?

Thanks Set.

TO THE MEMORY OF
TRIM
The best and most illustrious of his race
The most affectionate of friends,
faithful of servants,
and best of creatures
He made the tour of the globe, and a voyage to Australia,
which he circumnavigated, and was ever the
delight and pleasure of his fellow voyagers
Written by Matthew Flinders in memory of his cat
Memorial donated by the North Shore Historical Society

But he was stolen and probably eaten by a hungry slave.
How sad is that!  Cry

nothing wrong with that.

They should have thrown them all in the drink before allowing any ship to land in Australia, we'd have a lot more of our native wildlife left if they had.
