AN aged care worker who was caught on a hidden camera assaulting an 82-year-old man in a northern beaches nursing home has been sentenced to eight months in jail.

Prakash Paudyal, 36, of Hornsby, had pleaded guilty to two counts of domestic violence-related common assault for striking David Nabulsi, who has dementia, with a shoe and dragging him off his bed at a room in the Bupa aged care facility in Seaforth.

Mr Nabulsi’s daughter Ayda Celine had set up the camera in her father’s room because she believed he was being assaulted by a staff member.

Footage captured a day after the camera was installed showed Paudyal trying to undress Mr Nabulsi while saying to him “no fighting”, “no fighting”.

Paudyal is seen striking Mr Nabulsi with a shoe and shoving and dragging him across a bed while Mr Paudyal tries to remove his T-shirt. Mr Nabulsi then falls off his bed onto the floor.

In Manly Local Court on Wednesday magistrate Christopher Longley said the offence warranted a jail terms because Paudyal was in a position of trust after Mr Nabulsi was placed in his care by his family.

Mr Longley set a non-parole period of four months.

Paudyal’s legal team indicated it would appeal the sentence.

An application for bail was refused.

ABC is reporting four mouths.

The aged care worker who was secretly filmed abusing a grandfather on Sydney's northern beaches has been sentenced to four months in jail.

Changing an infant's nappy is often enough to make you dry heave.  But it's a baby.  It's beautiful and cute.  It smells delicious.  It's skin is indescribably wonderful and it has little dimples where knuckles, elbows and knees will be later on.  It coos up into your eyes as you change its foul nappy and it smiles its gummy little grin and melts your heart.  So what if it's a disgusting nappy filled with crap -- the child itself negates momentary revulsion

Old people aren't cute. They stink. Their skin is like old shoes. Their gummy smile makes you want to turn blind.  No heart-melting sounds emerge from them, just crow-like croaks and whines

I don't know how care-workers do it. I couldn't -- I wouldn't.  And wouldn't want anyone to have to do it for me

Sure, it's a job, it pays the rent.  But just because people get old does not mean they turn into angels

If I were compelled to change some rancid old person's nappy (maybe the 25th that shift) and they were behaving like an insane two year old, I'm sure I'd be tempted to give them a whack, just to make them sit still instead of smearing their filth all over the bed, forcing a sheet change and that's after getting them to sit in a chair before the bed-strip

The video looks bad, probably worse than it actually was.  I have a file filled with care-home abuses, so I support humane conditions for patients/consumers.  But can anyone here state with confidence that they wouldn't also lose it after one senile bag of festering poo too many?
