Most of the radiation would change to heat when it hits the shuttle.

And come to think of it inside the shuttle there would be conduction because of the air the astronauts would need for life.

Some would be...!

Most of the radiation would change to heat when it hits the shuttle.

And come to think of it inside the shuttle there would be conduction because of the air the astronauts would need for life.

No because one side of the shield is in a vacuum, no heat build up whatsoever.

Look, the guy in the video is a moron.

You know how the ambient temperature drops with reduced air pressure right?

For example, on earth, the temperature drops about 1⁰C for every 1,000 ft of elevation.

So, where jets fly it is minus 30⁰ C

Where the stuff around you is close to a vacuum, it is actually very cold ambient temp.

Of course the sunlight hitting the outside of a spacecraft makes it get hot, but by rotation of the craft and reflection and insulation, the temp inside can be controlled.

As for the rest of the points in that video, taken out of context, the quotes look like they are supporting the moron's "argument" ... but in context they are not.

Sure, the US doesn't have any Saturn V or equivalent launchers anymore, they don't have a shuttle program anymore and need to hitch a ride on the Soyuz to get to the ISS.

That's about the only thing that was right in that idiot's video.

If the sun's radiation can hit a single atom or molecule in the thermopshere or exosphere and give it energy in the form of heat.

Then why cant it do the same for a particle made of many atoms or molecules, I understand it will take longer but it will still happen whether on the micro or macro level.

Yes I know pressure affects temperature BUT your missing the point radiation travels through a vacuum and when it hits an object in that vacuum it transforms to heat, it heats the object up.

Oh, BTW ... before you get onto the "lack of stars" in the Moon pictures ... that is a very basic factor of photography.

If the brightness around you is strong enough, you can't photograph the stars and still get a reasonable exposure of the moonscape or Earthscape.

The "sky" looks black because there is no atmosphere to scatter the bright sunlight like it does on Earth, but the exposure issue remains.

Your argument isn’t very convincing.

If the space craft was rotating then the heat absorption would be more evenly dispersed around the skin, it would heat up more as a whole rather than sections if only the nose was pointing at the sun.

Reflection would occur but most of the heat would go into the skin, aluminum is one of the best conductors of heat.

Insulation I read somewhere the shuttle had 100mm thick insulation, of course you can get various grades of insulation but back then I don’t think they would have had the technology for insulation that we have now, then again its NASA so I could be wrong.

Thermal insulation on a pressure vessel or pipe that has fluid at 600°C running through it on the inside and has about 100mm of insulation and a thin skin of cladding is still hot to the touch as a comparison temperatures in the outer layers of the earth’s atmosphere can go as high as 2500° in direct sunlight.

But how many spot lights could they afford to power and have some power left over.

And they never thought of taking a picture in darkness.

BTW they're not denying that we never to the moon.

They're saying humans have never left the lower orbit of the Earth and until we can work out how to protect humans from the outer layers of the atmosphere then we wont be going anywhere.

According to NASA astronauts some of which were in space.

Looks like they took the Apollo missions out of their text books.
