a)  Where do they plan to build these new homes?
b) Where is the infrastructure to cater to them?
c)  Where are the jobs to feed the mortgages for them for all of those people buying a new home in Whoop-Whoop?

a) For example the only real space available near Sydney is the Sydney to Canberra corridor, and that is rapidly filling up with high prices and expanding ticky-tacky developments (much to confront the snooty noses of the locals)...

Such places as Maitland near Newcastle are filling up with 'ticky-tacky McMansions on a postage stamp' - I pass them often and wonder where all the people are to come from to fill them..... not only that but where are the jobs and where are the trains to move masses of people to other over-crowded sections of the Sydney region for work they will not get due to competition.  Are they to become 'investment properties' for those doing well 'in the mines' who will rent them out to the impoverished? (fail/fail - boom-bust in the mines and poor people are poor and can't afford those rents)...

The West is bounded by the Blue Mountains... knock 'em down and level the lot... turn the National Parks into a parking lot...  Are they going to shift masses over to Orange and Bathurst?  Where is the infrastructure and where are the jobs?

The South is bounded by National Parks and Reserves, and then is confronted by the Unemployment Monster in Wollongong - 15.3% acknowledged.

Down South West in The Corridor, there may well be a popular uprising from those who went refugee there from Sydney's slums, and who are now copping massive increases in costs of living via rates etc, and are being driven to insanity by the influx of 'lesser class' invaders from The Big Smoke increasingly filled with vertical slums.

So for Sydney - Labrador is confined to perpetuating the growth of The Ministry of Truth kinds of high-rise that are supposed to be the province of the Sellout/Selloff Liberals and their rapists of nature and culture mates called Developers...

Anyone for Malbun or Brisbane?  South of Brisbane is sprawling masses of houses steadily eroding all natural life...... every time I go there I raise an eyebrow and wonder where in hell all those people are coming from and where in hell they get work (other than in building houses like my son does).....

We need a NATIONAL Plan that encompasses JOBS (n' Growth), REAL infrastructure, and a FORWARD thinking plan to develop THE NATION - not just a postage stamp slapped over the bleeding wound of unavailability of housing.... or over any other single issue one at a time...

The last thing we need is more time, money and energy wasted on stupid ideas to 'make everyone equal'... provide GENUINE opportunity and let them sink or swim on their own merits..... filling the pockets of some with OUR gold will only weigh them down and cause them to sink...

Can immigration, get some forward plans going... ditch politicians if they fail ... no rewards for being booted out of office...

Another empty promise that will come to nothing.

The only action that would bring prices down would be to reduce immigration to zero for a decade.

Melbourne is the same - it's being filled up with little boxes
called units & townhouses.
The roads can't handle the increased population.
There are huge traffic jams on minor roads & roundabouts.

Stay on that tight-rope of sense... you can do it....

A good first step... 'perpetual growth' is not helping the nation.. it is only helping the corporate vultures who feed off it more and more... and we certainly have little need for unskilled labour in vast numbers... no jobs anyway and no tertiary industries worth a Faroffistani drachma.

It's time to limit immigration.

Limit it to what. Then, how would you address the aging population conundrum.

More seriously slightly - you know that the red necks do not care about the real impact of their racial beliefs.

All we need is a skilled migration program.

Bringing the world's trailer trash here is a solution for nothing but trouble.

Not enough skilled whities even want to come here above the numbers leaving.

I'm not going to hold my breath. Labor's promises aren't worth the paper they're written on. We're still waiting for Hawke's promise of no kids in poverty by 1990. Gillard's no carbon tax promise was a blatant lie. Rudd promised to stop the boats but did the exact opposite. Labor is full of pathological liars.

Big call on the back of the last 4 consecutive Liberal PM's we have had to suffer.

Quote:
We're still waiting for Hawke's promise of no kids in poverty by 1990.

How are the Libs going with Abbott's $550 power rebate ?

I would prefer to see a PM make an attempt like this and fail than to not try However it is widely known that he got the announcement wrong, it wasn't what he was meant to say.

Quote:
Gillard's no carbon tax promise was a blatant lie.

At the time she made the agreement she believed that it was not a tax and argued this position for a period of time, see her argument with Alan Jones. Eventually she accepted that it was a tax, someone who understood explained it to her. This makes the accusation of a deliberate lie untrue, She was wrong more than dishonest.

IMO it was irrelevant as it was by far the best solution. Had she been a bit cleverer she could have implemented the fixed carbon price in a different manner to insure that it was not a tax.

I don't think that's true -
there are plenty of skilled people who want to come to Australia.

So - trailer trash that no one in the rest of the world wants is OK then?

Find meaningful jobs for older people who want to work - bring some sense and experience into the equation.
