Well done, Cummings.  If Clem Jones was still alive and at Melbourne, that wicket would be flooded at about 4.00 am, rendered unplayable for lots of hours....and let's hope that Melbourne pisses down...all day tomorrow.

Cummings is a star.
What an amazing performance under extreme pressure.
Still it will be an almost impossible target with just 2 wickets in hand on the last day tomorrow.

Cummins's 'stand alone' performance is a good example of how bad Australian Cricket is.
When you get 'one' player holding the fort, while all others capitulate - then you have a side of 'individuals', not a 'team'.
Next test it might be Marsh, then Starc, etc.
This has been an ongoing trait ever since Clarke took captaincy (stole it from Katich because he sucked dickk to the Media).

During Taylor/Waugh - golden age. Everyone was part of a 'Team' - they 'all' fired. While Warne or McGrath were getting wickets, the Batsman were also getting centuries and everyone took catches.

But now - its just another year of 'One Man Show', in a team sport.

Cummins's effort isn't anything great - the rest of the team has made him look better than he really has been. Its a sad predicament.

*I wish to also highlight another 10 years of stupid Selection.
You should never choose a 20/20 Batting sensation into a Test Lineup. It's a whole different ball-game. You would think they learned something from Lehman's lackluster performance in Test, from a magnificent 'Super 8's' career.

Test Batsmen are 'defensive' (because the Bowlers are attacking)
20/20 Batsmen are 'attacking' (because the Bowlers are defensive).

Why they choose 'short game' Cricketers for the lengthy Test version is beyond me. These Selectors don't even know their own game of cricket anymore.  Roll Eyes

*edit] another good example of why Women, in Australian Sport are more 'professional' and doing this country proud. Australian 'male' cricket is definately 'over-paid'.  Tongue

absolutely  the women  even do better winning gold at the Olympics....sadly never quite being given the credit.. their sport is still under paid compared to the blokes....who get enormous pay even when they lose..
and behave disgracefully off field....

there is a lot not right with cricket   the gambling and match fixing...the sledging ..the racism  its been allowed to grow and turn ugly its  almost normal now for the sport.....

if you allow disgusting behavior to fester it will be like a brush fire out of control in moments......

and thats whats happened.....a lot of greed involved sadly.

Not true of the Steve Waugh years.  Read Shane Warne's 'No Spin.'

Despite the entrenched internal undercurrent, as they were stars, they still won.

India could have narrowly won by an innings if they would have enforced the follow on.
It looks like the sandpaper incident has cost Australia dearly.

You can go back to the Kim Hughes years as Skipper. Lillee, Marsh et al never even attempted to hide their disrespect/dislike for Hughes...I saw it on the field in action......yes I have played again all of them..Hughes, Wood, Langer, Yardley, Lillee, Marsh, Alderman etc.  I am not going to give details, as there are way too many doxxers around these parts.

Yes Cods.
As an Australian male, I can admit (and many others do too) that in Australia (and North America) - when it comes to Sport (and Music), the WOMEN have conducted themselves more 'professionally'.

It's like Aboriginal culture: The males keep the past, the women take the future.

Australian Sport for males will always be a more 'glorious' past.
Unlike in Africa & Oceania where the Males are more 'professional' and have a bright 'future' (Hence why South Africa beats us in Cricket and New Zealand beats us in Rugby Union).

Nobody bests Australia in the manufacture of excuses.

Well, you need to expose the laws that be.

How much bloody pitch doctoring and bs goes on in order to gain an advantage?

How about  the tanking involved because the bookies pay a better premium?

C'mon, get with the programme. Are you stupid?

If Sport in the Southern Hemisphere was like a Business run by the men.
Then Africa & Oceania would be the Engineers & Academics.
With Australia (Sahul) and South America being the pleb workers of Labourer and Clerk
Tongue

...with the Women, its the other way around. Wink

After stonewalling for a day and a half to ensure at least a draw in this match, ensuring India has their first test series win in Australia they are now cutting loose and are 6/621 in the first innings.

Declaration now at 7/621.
