ScoMo Express makes first stop in Queensland, unveils $112m of funding for Gold Coast light rail

The “ScoMo Express” has made its first stop of Scott Morrison’s bus tour of Queensland, where he has unveiled $112 million of federal money for Gold Coast light rail.

The Prime Minister’s announcement locks in Commonwealth funding for a 6.4km extension of light rail from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads across the Gold Coast. Mr Morrison said the investment was part of his policy to make Australian cities “more efficient”.

“This particular investment is fully funded by the Budget I announced in May,” he told reporters on the Gold Coast.

“When I was Treasurer, I initiated a review by the Productivity Commission about what were the most important things you could do in the Australian economy to boost productivity.

“One of the things they said ... was make our cities more effective, make them more workable, make them more liveable, and that what this does.”

The light rail is a very sensible and clever way to deal with the transport needs here on the Gold Coast. Its success demonstrates the wisdom of that approach. If something is working you should back it in.

Mr Morrison’s four-day bus tour of regional Queensland has been as a pre-run of a federal election campaign in the state’s pivotal marginal seats. The Prime Minister said the tour was to show his government was “hearing” voters’ concerns in the third biggest state.

“Why I’m here in Queensland this week is to say we know where we’re going with Queensland,” he said.

“We’ve been listening to Queenslanders ... we have a wonderful team right across the state who have been advocating for what the case for what Queensland needs for its infrastructure to grow and to be successful in the future.

“We have been listening but more importantly we’ve been hearing ... what Queenslanders have been saying. And that’s why we’re doing. And here today, we’re here to do.”

Yes SoLow is and always has been primarily a bully.

In this case we see him loosening the restrictions on work visas that his party had made tougher, fixing his own party's incompetence. They badly need someone who is good at that.

We see the biggest joke in town on display as well - good economic management - These guys were critical of Rudd and Gillaed but have managed to do a lot worse under Abbott Turnbull and SlowMo.

The current Liberal mob have been the worst economic managers in Australia for over 2 decades well maybe even 5 or 7.

The current Liberals under Scabo are economic clowns of the highest order.

Its the ScumMo The Clown show.

If farmers offered decent pay and conditions people might consider taking the work....From what we know so far many farmers will exploit this program as they always do....Lets make it easier to rort and less accountable to fix the problem!!!

Quote:
The Australian food industry has been rocked by serious accusations of 'slave labour', with claims immigrant workers are being abused and exploited across Australia to deliver fresh produce to supermarket shelves.

Many Australian shoppers try to support local farmers by buying Australian-grown fruit, vegetables and poultry at the supermarket.

But an ABC Four Corners investigation has exposed the dark side of the local food industry in which thousands of young workers are kept in 'slave-like conditions', are grossly underpaid and are even subjected to verbal abuse.

ScoMo kicks sand into the union parasites dials as he delivers election winning stuff to the Qld farmers wanting union free fruit pickers.

The union parasites have long tried to "unionize" fruit pickers to send fruit growers broke.

Morrison moves on farm labour demands by loosening backpacker and Pacific islander visas
By James Elton-Pym Updated 26 mins ago

Farmers groups and the Nationals have demanded more foreign workers to help growers tackle the harvest season.

The Morrison government will loosen restrictions on two schemes that bring temporary farm workers into Australia, after months of pressure from the farming lobby and warnings fruit would rot on trees unless a labour solution was found.

The move comes as prime minister Scott Morrison begins a tour of Queensland this week.

While the Farmer’s Federation and the Nationals had been calling for a new agricultural visa, the government will instead loosen restrictions on two existing visas: the working backpacker visa and the Pacific islander scheme.

"Australians filling Australian jobs is my number one priority, but when this isn't possible we need to ensure our farmers aren't left high and dry with rotting crops, especially in the strawberry industry,” Mr Morrison told News Corp on Monday.

The age cap on backpackers will be lifted to 35 for some countries, the prime minister told a Queensland newspaper. Backpackers will also be able to stay with the one employer for up to a year, rather than six months.

The seasonal worker program allows a limited list of employers to bring in workers from Timor Leste, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

The workers are currently allowed to stay for up to six months – or nine months for those from Nauru, Kiribati and Tuvalu.

The changes will reportedly increase the cap to nine months for all countries, and cut the costs for employers in the scheme. Employers will only have to pay $300 towards the worker’s travel costs, instead of the current $500.

The prime minister is expected to announce the changes on a Queensland farm on Monday.

SBS News has contacted the office of immigration minister David Coleman for more information.

While ScuMo's public image is a being managed as a peoples bloke the underlying character is all coal waving neoliberal that panders to the elite with trickle down economics.
