In the Blink of An Eye

A very good docu-movie that looks at birth, life and death through the eyes of three different times of evolution.   It starts off in the Neaderthal period, then the current period and finally the future, showing how the past, present and future interweave with each other
Starts off a bit slow, and is confusing for the first 15 minutes or so as the story establishes, but overall, a good movie for a rainy day

We Bury the Dead

After a catastrophic military disaster, where the USA have accidently nuked the East Coast Of Tassmania the dead don't just rise - they hunt. The military insists they are harmless and slow-moving, offering hope to grieving families. But when Ava enters a quarantine zone in Hobart searching for her missing husband, she uncovers the horrifying truth: the undead are growing more violent, more relentless, and more dangerous with every passing hour.

If you can handle the extreme level of bad language, Devonport Airport suddenly able to take Antinovs and a lot of AI and a “as usual” depiction of zombies, flesh eating people from Hobart and a setting that looks more like the Outback than green Tassie, then you are a better man than I.  Save your money or at least wait till a screening service buys it to show in the middle of the night.

APEX

On Netflix.

Not bad. Poor old Eric Bana had a pretty short role.

Charlize Theron is a muscly gal these days!  Shocked

The Mandalorian and Grogu

Not bad. But not great. Fans of "The Mandalorian" will like this movie. But, as a warning to the not so fanbased audience, "The Mandalorian and Grogu" is more like a big budget, 4 episodes of "The Mandalorian" with better special effects.

I actually fell asleep at the midpoint of the movie, and I missed about 10 to 15 minutes of the movie. But, I will not pay another $21 to go see the movie again. I will wait until I can watch it online.

Scary Movie 6

Stoner movie. Need I say more? I watched the entire movie waiting for the comedy to start. I understood all the movie parody references. But, they were very forced, and showing little in the way of humour.

The creators did pack a considerable amount of story into the movie. But, I was largely bored. $17 for a bottle of Coke and a small popcorn. $21.10 for the movie. I might skip any further movie attendances until some excellent movie hits the cinemas.

Dead of Winter.

Emma Thompson with a North American accent.
She was executive producer too.

Kind of similar to Fargo.

A bit schmaltzy but an engaging suspense movie.

Only just caught up with it on HBO Max

The Odyssey

Well, saw it today at my local IMAX theatre.
Great picture quality, ribcage rattling sound ...

BUT ... it's a "meh" from me.

Nice acting from Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway in particular and an honourable mention for John Leguizamo and Elyes Gabel but the movie didn't live up to the hype.

Interesting.

I might check it out next week.

Also interesting is the fact that MAGA cult members and Fox "News" hosts are giving it bad reviews because they say it is historically inaccurate.

They don't understand that it's a work of fiction.

I don't think there has ever been a *dumber group of people in the history of the world.

*Not many people know that the word dumb has a b in it.

Skip the Flick, Read the Book

Mark Lopez,  Jul 22 2026

From the moment a black actor loudly rammed his staff on the floor of a great dining hall in Ithaka, signalling the beginning of the film, my heart sank. This much anticipated film, Odyssey, was to be a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI ) movie and the writer-director-producer Christopher Nolan wants us to know this from the outset. The casting was more than irritating, it was demoralising, so much so that I was not able to ignore it and  lose myself in the story unfolding n the screen. Had this flick been  made in Australia, I’m sure it would have begun with a Welcome to Country.
Nolan’s film is the kind of provocation that the politically correct love. They ideologically misrepresent dimensions of our culture, challenging us to accept what they have done because to express antagonism at being poked with a sharp stick is to fall into their carefully laid trap, leaving oneself open to being called ‘racist’.

So, from the outset, I had to watch Bronze Age Greeks and their gods played by a United Nations panoply of Africans, Asians, mixed-race individuals, and Europeans, hardly any of whom looked Greek. It felt like an insult to European culture and literature and to those like me who value it.

But it got worse. Soon I had to endure the greatest miscasting in cinema history – a black actress, Lupita Nyong’o, playing Helen of Troy. My first thought was that black actors should refuse to be used as props to undermine Western Civilisation. And her performance was not that good either, suggesting her presence was driven by political rather than artistic reasons. Although this casting was intended to please the politically correct it also seemed intended to hurt some and infuriate others. However, it should be noted that to qualify for a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards, films now must have a racially diverse actor playing a lead or significant supporting role, or have thirty per cent of the cast played by so-called ‘under-represented’ groups.

At least I did not have to endure seeing a Greek warrior played by a man with a nose ring and a man bun. But, then again, the warrior Sinon is played by Elliot Page, a biological woman who recently re-identified as ‘male’. This is yet another carefully set trip wire. Criticise this travesti travesty and you’ll be derided as ‘transphobic’.

The screenplay by writer-director-producer Christopher Nolan is ponderous. Half-way through, I was wishing Odysseus would get back to Ithaka, kill the hundred suitors  testing his loyal wife’s virtue and thereby end the story so I could go home.

So what's wrong with blackface in musicals? Musicals aren't documentaries, FFS, dim lying clown.
Why must, say, Nelson Mandela be played by a black actor? Why not by Matt Damon? Or Cate Blanchett, for that matter?
