So, Graps, let me put a question to you. If you were a Muslim in Australia, how would you view the way many in Australian society treat you? Would you characterise it as "victimise" or "oppress"? How about "hatred"?
I have yet to see a Muslim ill-treated here ... I cannot vouch for their personal feelings of inferiority or uncertainty over living in a new nation... or their difficulty in assimilating fully... when you herd yourselves into ghettoes and self-isolate, you have yourself to blame for ongoing concerns over your inability to be fully a part of a nation/society/culture, and when a few members from your ghetto groups do and say awful things.....
Where is this tsunami of ill-treatment of Muslims, other than in the press and online discussion - and bear in mind that discussion per se of pertinent issues is not ill-treatment or abuse. Speech and freedom of discussion should not be curtailed simply to cater to the fears of a small group who may consider it harmful.
This ill-treatment is in their own minds primarily.
If I were a Muslim, and the thinking person that I am, I would be wondering what all the fuss is about... and why greater efforts were not being made to be a full contributing part of this society... but that's me, and I would, as an individual, be no more bound by rigid Islamic religious control that I currently am by rigid Christian religious control = Not At All.
Of course - that might cause a fatwah against me....
