Agree. We also do not have the infrastructure; or do you envisage this to be purely on a household basis?

Not necessarily. Just use the same as we use now, just get more bang for our buck. And there have been plans to do water recycling in towns ( I recall Toowoomba as an example) but its voted down almost every time bvecause of the perceptions behind it.

Let me be clear here, I'm not saying no new dams, I'm just saying new dams is only part of a multfactorial answer to the problem.

Well I'm thinking in the instance I am interested in, the reason I was against the Needles Gap dam in NSW was the killing of a cave system and potential destruction of fossils. Against that, was the lack of a true business case from the dam builders

May be damaged by erosion. It depends on water flow. As well as the composition of the fossil base.

Indeed, coupled with the fact that there was a signifcant karst system indicate a good reason fort not putting the dam where it was.

Both, Cliefden caves have a thermal spring. The problem would be that karst systems are like icebergs, what we know of is not the full extent of the system. Even a well-known caving area like Jenolan is having new caves and new passages of existing caves being found all the time.

So there was no real way to know for certain what the water from the dam would do, it may well have drained through unknown caves past the dam and so the dam would have proved useless.

This was coupled woith the comments from the guy controlling water in the region plus the federal MP for the area. It was according to them only a couple of small caves full of mud, when at the moemtn we know of 97 separate caves in the area, the longest being about 3 km in length of explored passage.
