This warming is anthropogenic and the rate of warming is too fast for plants and animals to adapt. They can migrate/colonise areas of higher altitudes or latitudes but that can only go so far.

With the permafrost thawing and both poles melting and sea level rise accelerating it is beyond dispute that the globe is warming.

Only questions are how to reduce emissions, how to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, how to adapt and how to mitigate.

Hi Monk,
Have you been listening to your snake oil salesman - Al Gore?

I have never listened, watched or read anything by Al Gore. The one sucked in by snake oil sellers is you.

There wasn't any runaway global warming during the Holocene Climactic Optimum, which was warmer than now.

The Anthropocene is not valid epoch. It was a proposed epoch and  didn't make it.

Poor Will Steffen alarmist extraordinaire.

Guess that you would expect an impact when the planets Orbit changes ? Funny that while you are correct that it fails to support your argument in any way.

There is a huge risk of positive feedback causing further temperature rises.

It's already happening with the melting of subarctic peat and warmer seas causing release of methane from hydrates in the sea.

Bobby will be apoplectic when he sees this claim.

Between global warming and plastic pollution of the sea, the earth is doomed.

The current Northern Hemisphere heat waves are a portent of what is to come.

Study warns of looming potential for runaway global warming
BY MAX GREENWOOD - 08/06/18 07:56 PM EDT

A new study out Monday warns of the possibility of out-of-control global warming if humans fail to band together to fight the worst effects of climate change.

The analysis, conducted by researchers at the Australian National University and the Stockholm Resilience Center, among other institutions, outlines the potential for a "threshold" that, if crossed, would lead to runaway warming patterns and the advent of a "Hothouse Earth."

If such a threshold is crossed, the study warns, global average temperatures could climb as much as 8 degrees Fahrenheit above current temperatures and sea levels could rise 30 to 200 feet.

"Crossing the threshold would lead to a much higher global average temperature than any interglacial in the past 1.2 million years and to sea levels significantly higher than at any time in the Holocene," the study says.

The report is based on a review of past research of thresholds for climate change, according to USA Today.

Even if every country that signed on to the Paris climate agreement meets its obligations under the pact and limits the global temperature increase to 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit, runaway global warming could still be a threat, the newspaper reports. ...

The worst is yet to come but the deniers will always make excuses so they can continue to trade their fake printed dollar bills at any cost Sad

ok Go back further. Tell me when, if ever, we have had runaway global warming.  We have had millions of years of orbital changes.

If we ever had runaway global warming all water would have been driven off. There would be none now.

"Al Gore's Oscar-winning documentary on global warming, An Inconvenient Truth, was yesterday criticised by a high court judge who highlighted what he said were "nine scientific errors" in the film.

Mr Justice Barton yesterday said that while the film was "broadly accurate" in its presentation of climate change, he identified nine significant errors in the film, some of which, he said, had arisen in "the context of alarmism and exaggeration" to support the former US vice-president's views on climate change."

From the garudian, so it must be true.

The grand solar minimum started in 2017 -
that's when it really got going.
We still have to through the next 5 years for the full effect.
Tassie will get very cold.
Poor Monk -
You'll have to stay at Aussie's place in winter.

There very likely would have been runaway components in some of the change episodes maybe even most of them. All it really means in it will take a number of cycles before a new point of balance is found. Something like a feedback loop and sometimes it can be because the result of one increase will drive an increase in the cause of the increase driving another round of increase again till a balance is reached.

Or as in this case driven by external factors.

A planet shift or orbit change is a one off though drastic there will be a correction. In the current case increasing CO2 can drive change but it isn't a one off the levels keep increasing driving more change.

So what did we say earlier? About 1,000 zetajoules per 1ēC?

30 zetajoules divided by 1,000 = 0.03ēC. Oh no. We're DOOMED. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

A positive feedback can't become a negative feedback. Runaway global warming would continue to destruction.

Didn't you get the memo? It is water that drives climate. CO2 not worth a spit into the wind.
