Oil Spill in USA
Jun 26th, 2018 at 7:30am

https://www.ecowatch.com/train-derailment-iowa-river-2581127525.html

A train derailment spilled 230,000 gallons of crude oil into an already-flooded Iowa river Friday, endangering downstream drinking water, the Des Moines Register reported Sunday.

Thirty-two cars of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train derailed, 14 of which leaked crude oil into the Rock River in Doon, Iowa. The cause of the derailment is unknown, but officials including Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds attributed it to heavy rain Wednesday and Thursday which led to flooding.
To aid recovery from extreme weather and its consequences, including the derailment, Reynolds issued a proclamation of disaster emergency Saturday for Lyon County, where the train derailed, as well as Plymouth, Sioux and Woodbury counties.
Workers so far have contained nearly half the spill—around 100,000 gallons—using booms, BNSF told Reuters.

Just another reason to get rid of Fossil Fuels...... Look at the damage even before this crap is burned. Wink Wink

Wasn't it Obama who abandoned construction of pipelines for transfer of oil; thereby putting more oil on trains?

https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/broken-pipe-is-ours-says-indonesian-st...
JAKARTA (THE JAKARTA POST/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Indonesia's state oil and gas company Pertamina has admitted that one of its pipelines, which was being used to transfer crude oil, had been the cause of an oil spill in Balikpapan Bay, East Kalimantan, last week.
At least five fishermen died in the fire over the weekend.
An Irrawaddy dolphin was also found dead and stranded on a beach behind the Balikpapan Legislative Council building.
According to the Environment and Forestry Ministry's report released on Wednesday, the oil spill affected some 7,000 hectares of Balikpapan Bay.
Around 60km of the area's coastline, stretching from Balikpapan to North Penajam Pasir regency, have been marred with oil.

Ohh yes pipeline so much better. No wonder when they wanted to put in a pipeline over land, the land owners in North Dakoda said they didn't want it.
Gotta love Fossil Fuels hey

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pipeline_accidents
2017 (November 16) TransCanada's Keystone Pipeline leaks 210,000 gallons (5,000 barrels) of crude oil in Marshall County in northeastern South Dakota. Officials don't believe the leak affected any surface water bodies or threatened any drinking water systems.[100]
2014: On April 2, a pipeline failed, and spilled 70,000 liters of oil and processed water, northwest of Slave Lake, Alberta.[33]
2014: In November, 60,000 liters of crude oil spilled into muskeg from a failed pipeline, in Red Earth Creek in northern Alberta. Officials were delayed in reaching the scene, due to poor weather at the time.[34]
2015: On July 15, a pipeline at a Long Lake oil sands facility in northern Alberta leaked about 31,500 barrels of oil emulsion. The spill covered approximately 16,000 square meters (4 acres) but was mostly contained within the pipeline's right of way.[37]
2015: On August 14, a leak from a pipeline spilled about 100,000 liters of an oil, water, & gas emulsion on the Hay Lake First Nation, about 100 kilometers northwest of High Level, Alberta[38]
2016: On July 21, a leaking Husky Energy pipeline spilled 225,000 liters of oil into the North Saskatchewan River, prompting a massive cleanup.[39]
2017: On February 17, a total of 200,000 liters of oil condensate in Strathcona County, Alberta were released from line 2A, near Anthony Henday Drive and 92 Avenue,[40] after line was struck during 3rd party construction operations.[4

Yes yes pipelines soooooo much better....... Wink Wink Wink

ahh then the pipeleine and the rail line have the same chance to destroy the environment..
You where happy to discount the whole thing and just say Obama blah blah. All the time ignoring that every spill is a terrible thing. Wink Wink Wink
The damage to the world just from leaks and spills little on the harm caused by processing and using Fossil Fuels is why I think that renewable energy is the only way to stop killing our world

No a static pipeline is safer than rolling stock. You like to talk vehicle accidents with Tesla etc. They are rolling stock also, just MV's not trains.

And where did I say any oil spill is NOT bad for the environment?

And of course we should just ignore natural oil seepage?

see u couldn't help yourself u had to discount the damage by bringing in Natural oil seepage........
Instead of worrying about the transporting method, how about the fact that both methods r failing and contaminating the world  Wink Wink

sa because oil leaks out naturally we shouldn't care when we make oil spills ?

Yes I do use FF's and its a real shame I have too, doesn't change the fact that I want change , the burning of FF's for energy is a waste of such a important resource and highly toxic.
Why I support a change to more clean alternative. We used to use kero heaters in our houses didn't make it right, we have just progressed, realized they where poisoning us and moved on.
Lead paint, asbestos all so many things.
The attitude that because we rely on something we shouldn't want change when something is proved to be poisoning us is just defeatist to my way of thinking. Wink Wink

Really. can you provide proof? Burning wood would have more particulates than kero.

It is a lovely day out isnt it, warmed up a bit here Smiley
you did it again Lee
when your ready to quote what I say and not just little bits and take out of context  It will be a lot easier to answer...

u brought up natural spillage ,, wasn't me, but because u keep using one line , in your old age u forget what u posted  Cheesy Cheesy
Kero heaters never used to have exhausts like fire places...... U really think they burned clean in our houses ?

Just look at the smog (go on nit pick that like u don't know what poisonous chemical air around cities r called) and tell us how its not created by FF's
Again if your not worried go suck on a tailpipe  Wink Wink

Remember we r in a closed system brother.
Ohh and I cant wait to see how u can grab half a sentence this time and turn it around  Cheesy Grin Grin Grin Grin

I never said that either. I said they were cleaner than wood burning fireplaces. Not all wood burning fireplaces had/have a flue or exhaust if you like.

No smog around here. You do know about terpenes?

Nope. Wrong again. In a closed system there is no air flow. There is no cap on the top of the atmosphere.
