A train derailment spilled 230,000 gallons of crude oil into an already-flooded Iowa river Friday, endangering downstream drinking water, the Des Moines Register reported Sunday.

Thirty-two cars of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train derailed, 14 of which leaked crude oil into the Rock River in Doon, Iowa. The cause of the derailment is unknown, but officials including Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds attributed it to heavy rain Wednesday and Thursday which led to flooding.
To aid recovery from extreme weather and its consequences, including the derailment, Reynolds issued a proclamation of disaster emergency Saturday for Lyon County, where the train derailed, as well as Plymouth, Sioux and Woodbury counties.
Workers so far have contained nearly half the spill—around 100,000 gallons—using booms, BNSF told Reuters.

Just another reason to get rid of Fossil Fuels...... Look at the damage even before this crap is burned.

JAKARTA (THE JAKARTA POST/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Indonesia's state oil and gas company Pertamina has admitted that one of its pipelines, which was being used to transfer crude oil, had been the cause of an oil spill in Balikpapan Bay, East Kalimantan, last week.
At least five fishermen died in the fire over the weekend.
An Irrawaddy dolphin was also found dead and stranded on a beach behind the Balikpapan Legislative Council building.
According to the Environment and Forestry Ministry's report released on Wednesday, the oil spill affected some 7,000 hectares of Balikpapan Bay.
Around 60km of the area's coastline, stretching from Balikpapan to North Penajam Pasir regency, have been marred with oil.

Ohh yes pipeline so much better. No wonder when they wanted to put in a pipeline over land, the land owners in North Dakoda said they didn't want it.
